Definitely you can straighten your hair and sun-in isn't a factor as it has been awhile since you used it. The process will create some 'lightening' 1or 2 levels so the 'brown' will also lighten up.
Make sure you have a good conditioning a few days prior to the process. Other than color and wavy, You did not mention the condition such as frizzy, etc. so it is paramount for you to do lots of conditioning leading up to doing the straightening.
I wouldn't recommend doing the process yourself but have it done by someone who is familiar with the process. If $$$ are a factor, consider going to a beauty school where you will get a much better price and still be tended to by a 'professional' (instructor) who is monitoring a student.
If that is not feasible, go to a beauty supply store in your area and ask if they have any shows or demonstrations coming up where they might be able to use you as a model. That is 'free' service but you have to be willing to bend to their wishes (theme) for that show.
Follow this link to Rusk (http://www.rusk1.com/products/thermal-str8/index.asp#thermalstr8) and make sure you follow another link on this page to their 'Thermal STR8 Q&A' section. If the link does not work, 'cut & paste' the address to your browser address line. The Q&A will at least make you aware of some of the pitfalls you might find yourself in and more so if you do the home thing.
Good luck with it,

I used to use Sun-In(I loved that stuff! It works so well) and straight my hair. I think you could get your hair permanetly straightned and it wouldn't hurt it. Considering I straightened my hair every single day while using that stuff and my hair is fine and its not ruined. I'd say get the permant straightening because they you don't have to spend the time straightening it everyday or every other day. Hope this helped!

The best thing to do is visit a stylist and ask their opinion if your hair is healthy enough to withstand another chemical process. Don't forget to condition your hair daily. It will help prepare the hair for what u want to do.

No No No, do not permanently straghten your hair.... it will ruin it.. you think you have a little fuzz now, wait til you straigthen it, it will really be fuzzy. I would suggest using a flat iron, like CHI its the best and you don't have to worry about the harsh chemicals. Please listen I think you will really regreat the Permanent Straightener. GL

I have curly hair, and I permanently straightened it... and I LOVE IT. It knocked down the frizz factor for me, big time. But DON'T try to do it yourself! Have a professional do it for you. They'll be able to tell you whether your hair is strong enough for it or not. I promise - you'll love it!

yes definitely..you can only not permanently straighten if you're hair has been bleached, double processed or over processed...call up a salon that you want to get the procedure done at..they will ask you to come in so they can test you're hair first..that's what I did
