Satanists are all about rebellion against authority and that which constrains us. The feel that everything is allowable, nothing is taboo, and there will be no punishment for what others may consider "evil." They look to Satan as a role model, as he was the first to rebel.
In order to believe in this, though, they have to believe in God (as Satan had to rebel against SOMEbody, right?). Thus, they believe in God, but do not believe He has enough power to put them in Hell. I don't get it either, but that is what they believe (or so I am told by the three satanists with whom I have spoken).

I agree, the modern social label of Satanism is not a direct practice of devil worship, it is more of a anti-social science to do with not accepting the social conditions imposed on many by years and years of Christian monotheist and political indoctrination over the last two thousand year which because of the religious inconsistencies caused it's inevitable and imminent demise of practice leaving Satanism as a source of direction for many generations children proceeding them by their parents , in effect there are three brands of devil trafficking where the social labels are concerned, the first is fascist Satanism they will step inside the circled pentagram and attempt to invoke or conjure the unnameable , they take a do as I say or die, there is nothing after me sort of approach I am the end of all and there is no hope, then there is the second which is a liberal approach they have a love and let sin view and have sort of mediocre see point and the final third effect which often disagrees with the first two forms of Satanism or devil worship which is the nonconformists who associate themselves with the previous two because of their stance against social and religious restrictions however the nonconformist does not usually believe anything of the first two, to the nonconformist Satanism is just an means to an end, many nonconformists take the atheist ground of teachings. It is also easy to mistake the believer of no monotheist religious followers as Satanist, to the nonconformist their way is almost indistinguishable to the polytheist believers because at the root of the nonconformity if a aged belief stemming back before Christianity , in misinterpreting for example followers of the indigenous western Indian or the Vikings, both at times have often been wrongly labelled as evil through social doctrine and social group identification of mediocrity, like the Indian the Vikings believers of the old gods as they are termed do not take to the sickness of evils direction and has a spirit world just as the Viking have a Valhalla a paradise of the brave that is not a hell or place of internal darkness. In short though you are absolutely right there Satanism more of a anti-social science rather than a practice craft.

Satanism DOESN'T represent death, torture or destruction. It represents life, living it to the full and enjoying it. In fact, it's the religions like Christianity and Islam that were and still are responsible for the torture and death of millions of innocent people throughout centuries. I think the reason many people turn to Satanism is because they see the hypocrisy and lies in the traditional religions. In a way, Satanism is like atheism, but with a system of certain ideas and values that give it some sort of form.
Satanism is centered on one's self rather than on some deity. Satanism stands for the earthly nature of humans, especially their desires and aspirations. It also emphasises the importance of being responsible for your own actions, and that your own fate lies in your own hands.
The Satanic Golden Rule is "do unto others as they do unto you", which is the opposite of the Christian Golden Rule.
Concerning going to hell, it's a myth created by the main religions in order to keep their believers in fear. I can't speak for all the Satanists (as their beliefs do vary), but personally I don't believe in hell. I believe that after death we simply cease to exist, so this life we live - we must make the most of it and enjoy it to the full.
And no, no baby sacrifices or drinking blood either :-p

Satanists do not believe in heaven, hell, god, or satan. They use the symbol of satan to serve as a stark contrast to Christian teaching.
Christian teaching mortifies the flesh, making the spirit all important. To a satanist, the flesh is all there is, so mortifying it is to mortify human existence entirely. Therefore, the counterpoint Satanism provides is total respect and total expression of human nature.
http://www.churchofsatan.com has a section called 'theory and practice'. If you wish to understand LaVey'an Satanism, look for the Nine Satanic Statements and the Eleven Satanic Rules. I promise, just looking won't make you a devil worshipper, and at the risk of encouraging preaching, if you understand a Satanist, you may better be able to witness your own beliefs to him or her.

In order to understand Satanists you need to understand what Satan is, for this you need to look to early scripture, you actually need to look to the 5 books of moses or the Torah, the old testament. Satan was an angel, who challenged the power of god, angels are automaton who do gods bidding, satan got himself an awareness of the individual and wanted to make a choice, not to be dictated to by god. Satan was not and is not evil, he merely challenged the word of god and was cast out of heaven for doing so. The story is reflected in the story of Adam and Eve, they took from the tree of knowledge and were cast out from Eden. Satanist by definition do not believe in hell, Satan is Jewish in origin and the Jews don't believe in hell either. What they both believe in is what you do unto others you shall receive in the next life. With this premise then, it is unlikely that satanist will perform evil acts as they will get them back later. But as with any society evil will sometimes occur. Satanist then believe in questioning , and challenging the norms not in just being plane nasty, it is a legitimate belief system but its portrayal is often corrupted by the media and the church as it challenges authority. For point of reference I am not a satanist, I am not Jewish, I have studied religion

Technically, alot of satanists do not believe in hell, nor heaven. They mostly believe in living their lives to the fullest, without having to always tell the truth and be good all the time. No they do not worship satan. Satan worshippers worship Satan, Satanists live by his principles.

For the most part, yes, you are wrong. Satanism is the 'selfish religion'. They're into themselves. The vast majority of them don't even believe in a 'devil'. They don't believe in hell as a literal place, either. They DO have specific laws in their religion that doesn't allow them to harm others unless it's in self defense. They're not even permitted to harm an animal unless it's for their food.
They, like atheists, also tend to be really into intellectualism. I tend to think of them, in the most general of terms, as just really aggressive atheists. Make up your own mind, tho.
Check out the link. http://www.blackplague.org/satanic/satanism.html
It lists their rules of the earth, their laws (commandments, if you will) and the Satanic Sins. The first Satanic Sin is "Stupidity". If that's their greatest sin, you can bet they won't be doing anything like some people describe.

Yes, you're wrong. Satanists don't actually believe in hell, Satan, or any god at all.
Here's an introduction to Satanism, written by a Satanist:

Most satanists don't believe in hell, God, or even Satan. To them Satan is a representation of their ideology. Some, however, believe in him and do willingly worship him.

No, Satanism isn't devil worship.
Read this article on Satanism, I think it's quite interesting and nothing like the stereotype drilled into peoples' minds.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism
BTW: Satanists don't believe in the God & Devil of Judeo-Christian mythology so don't go spouting that "If you believe in the devil you MUST believe in God"
