Read John 3:13. So where were the dead ones like Abraham, Moses, and all the faithfuls of pre-Christian era during Christ's time? During our time?

You mean where did they go? The bible says they're resting. No one knows where but God.

I think they went to heaven when Jesus did. Later on, it says He was the first of many. In Romans 6 and 1st Corinthians 15, it discusses the resurrection and I understand it to mean the dead in Christ are in heaven. In 1st Petr 4:6, it says He preached to the dead. I believe because Paul said to be absent from the body is to be with Christ and because Jesus said "Lo I am withyou always even until the end" that the dead in Christ are living in Heaven.

Orthodox Christian doctrine is that as the creed states, Jesus descended to the dead. There he restored the righteous dead to their new sanctified life. The litany of the saints that older churches recite does include Abraham, etc. so we do consider them to be in heaven. But as with all men, we consider this to be through Christ's grace.

Before Christ there was a place Jesus called Abraham's bosom. Both the good and the evil went there...
Authority is:
Luke 16:19-25
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

After the Death and Resurrection of the Lord He took captivity captive. All those who held faith in God were taken to the father by Jesus.
Authority
Eph.4:8
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

The rest remained in what the Church now calls hell... Jim

Now they are in heaven. Before Christ died on the cross and opened the gates of heaven, no-one could go there. But those who lived good lives, obeying Yahweh according to the dictates of their conscience were surely not condemned to hell. They were in some resting place awaiting the Messiah. Jesus went to visit them there.

I believe they are resting, asleep, at peace, whatever you choose to call it. I don't think they "realize" they are dead. I don't think any of us will be reunited with Christ until the end of time. Revalations makes references to the dead being judged, and I don't feel that time has come yet. It's nice to think our dead loved ones watch over us, but I don't see any Biblical evidence for us. I would love to believe it, because I lost several friends in the past few years, but the Bible says the dead will be judged, and I can't argue that.

The faithful who ended their mortal existance before Christ went to The Cross, went to Paradise. there they waited for Christ to come and take them to Heaven. Which He did when He left His mortal body on The Cross.... since The Cross all who end their mortal existance sleep awaiting the Rapture when Christ will come and call The Church to meet Him in The air. Then all will go To Heaven to prepair for Christs return to Earth.

Until Jesus died, no one could enter into heaven. Everyone who had died before Jesus died on the cross, went to "the place of the dead" they werent in heaven. No one could get to heaven until Jesus died.
