Maybe if it just sheared the side of the tree. It is not going to pass through an 18" thich tree. No way. I have shot a lot of trees just messing around with eveything from a 410 shotgun to a 30-06 and never have I had it penetrate very far.

No. 18 inches is way for then anything but a very high powered high caliber "armor peircing" roung. This is Mil-Spec stuff. You can't just buy it at wal-mart.
Even though, some rifle rounds do have the power to fire through maybe 10 or 11 inches or solid wood, the projectile, the bullet itself is torn to shreds in the process. You must remember that when you ask a question like that.
Maybe... and i mean maybe, a steel core, brass jacketed 300WSM, (not that they even make this round) might have the kenetic energy and the bullet strength to survive this.. Oh, and good 50 caliber rifle round might.
Plus, something about the water breaks rifle round apart. its pretty weird
And remember the 762x39 of the ak isn't that powerful of a rifle round. Its meant for full auto. a 308 or 270 and especially a 30-06 is way more powerful.

The chances of an AK-47 bullet penetrating thru a tree is slim the bullet losses velocity on impact if you were 10 ft away maybe but unlikely I tried it with my 223 it went in but not thru

Not with just one shot. I do believe that you could cut a tree that size down with an AK-47 or any other automatic rifle given enough rounds.

an ak47 shoots a round comparable to the 30.30 and no it wouldnt go thru 18" of wood even with "armor peircing" rounds BUT i did use a russian mosin nagaint 7.65 with military rounds and shot thru a 14" pine tree (i think that tree died for real bugs got into it after that) your friend needs a reality check games are not real!!! and if you live your life by what you learn in a game then you have a problem in real life! but i did hear one man say " I reject your reality and substitute my own!)

I don't think a 7.62x39 would have the power to go more than six or seven inches...but I saw a Italian Carcano 6.5 go something like 20", or maybe more, into a straight shaft of wood...some show about the Kennedy assassination, trying to show how much penetration the round had. They literally stuck the muzzle against the wood and fired. I remember I told my wife "this is stupid...it's only gonna go six or seven inches..."
Boy, was I wrong!

Yes a AK-47 will go through an 18" tree as long as you are using a full metal jacket bullet and shooting through a soft wood tree (i.e. pine)

It depends on the calibre, & the distance...but 18" even point blank...no, I would say you can't. If it slows so much or disintigrates when shot into water, what will it do in a solid tree??
Stop...not too far in....
