My 4 year old female chihuahua takes her toys, the stuffed bears on my bed, and blankets, and makes her own little nest with "babies". If anyone other than me (including our other chihuahua) goes near her area, she gets sort of aggressive. Anyone know anything about this...?

Some female dogs are just very "maternal" and respond to toys and other small animals like "babies". We had a female dog whose teats would swell whenever there were puppies around even though she had no milk to feed them.
((We also have a male dog, Frodo, that treats puppies, smaller dogs, and cats like his children. He grooms them and lets them sleep piled up on top of him.))
It is possible, though, that your dog is "resource guarding": being territorial over her toys and space and not wanting to share them with anyone. This is a behavior that will need to be modified so it doesn't develop into outright aggression as the dog gets older.

My mom and I raised chihuahuas for around 10 years and have encountered this before. It sounds like she is having what they call a false pregnancy. Basically she thinks she pregnant when she's not. So my advice is to take her have her spayed or if u want puppies from her, find a stud and let nature take it's coarse and then spay her as soon as u no longer want to breed her. It's hard on them to live there lives like this. Hope it works out soon. Good luck.

Even though shes' been spayed, she probably does still have a mother instinct. I don't have professional knowledge as to why or what to do about it, mabe she needs lots of attention.
We had an outside larger dog, lived in a small town, she once brought home a dead puppy, (don't know where from- it wasn't hers- she had been spayed for years), and it was very heart breaking to take away from her--- she was also very protective and tried to care for it. I just thought the mother instinct was very strong in her- she wanted a puppy of her own.

One of two things she's in afaulse pregnacy & mentally considers them babies. OR she's "resorce guarding" IE: keeping all the nice toys for herself. IF she's just outta heat within the last 2 months & hasn't done tis before I'd bet on the faulse pregnacy.
