I'm thinking about joining Weight Watchers, but I've heard both negative and positive things about it. One negative was that once you start the program you shouldn't stop because you'll gain everything back. Anyone else have any feedback or recommend a different diet program?

I joined weight watchers 2 years ago and lost 35 pounds, and it is still off.
I don't really believe that what you have heard is true. It isn't like a diet pill or Atkins where once you are off of it, you gain the weight back. The great thing about WW is that it teaches you the correct way to eat, and what correct portion sizes are. To me WW was never a true "diet." You can eat whatever you want, you just know that you have to make an allowance for that piece of cake, and that maybe you will need to have something less pointy for dinner, in order to balance it out.
It's funny, I'm no longer stringently following the plan (writing down everything I eat, and keeping track of points), but I still use a WW mindset. It's true what they say, it is a lifestyle change, not a diet.
To me, it is the best weight loss program out there, and I don't think that you will regret joining.

I would have to say the negative thing you heard about stopping that you will gain it all back is pretty much true with any "diet" program which is why you have to view it more of a lifestyle change.

I had lost 100 pounds in 10 months on Weight Watchers. Yes I did gain back weight (not all of it mind you) over a period of 4 years, 3 major abdominal surgeries (not for weight) and 2 foot surgeries. I am back on program and working to get the weight off that I gained.

With Weight Watchers I do not feel as though I am on a diet as I can have anything I want in moderation. Everything has a point value and you get so many points a day once you have ate your points you are done eating for the day (although you can still eat 0 point foods as they have no point value).

I have never felt deprived on Weight Watchers and do not feel hungry. I feel that the program is easy to follow and love that there are not any "off limit" foods.

Also if you do decide to join Weight Watchers there is usually an online coupon you can print out for a discount on the joining fee (usually $10-$15 dollars off).

CONS for some people:
Costs money (I personally thought it was worth it because it worked so well)
Needs self-control (just like any diet, really)
If the meeting leader in your area is a dud, the support might not be great.

PROS
It works if you stick to it.
It is easy (takes a couple of weeks to learn it, but then you get into a pattern that is easy to keep up)
You don't have to cut out your favorite foods (just eat sensible portions of them)
The support at meetings can be very good
Lots of on-line support groups for people using the same plan as you, and good support materials are available.
No pills
They encourage slow weight loss, which is the healthiest and most permanant type of loss (programs that promise quick loss are doomed to fail, most bodies just can't handle it).
You don't have to buy special food, just buy groceries like normal.
They have a good incentive to keep the weight off...free membership after you meet your goal, as long as the weight stays off!

If you have spent years gaining weight, then there are probably habits in your eating and exercise that need changing. Weight Watchers helps you change those bad habits. With ANY diet or program, if you go back to your bad habits, of course you will gain the weight back! Weight Watchers does a good job of helping you develop good habits, and how to switch from weight loss to weight maintenance after you meet your goal. They help you adjust your food intake back up to a normal level, and normal does not mean back to the bad habits. Some programs help you lose weight, but they leave you with the impression that you are "done" once the weight is lost, and leave you kind of hanging in a place where you don't know how to keep the weight off.

Weight Watchers is a satisfactory solution to move. It teaches you the way you'll consume satisfactory healthful meals even if consuming out. Even a few medical professionals propose WW for diabetics since of it is healthful meals practices. You can unfastened weight quite rapidly to begin as with every nutrition or meals routine. If you hit a plateau, you have to be sufferer often in per week to ten days your frame will kick in once more and begin loosing once more.

Weight Watchers is a life style not a diet, it teaches you healthy eating habits . The only reason a person puts the weight back on is they go back to the old unhealthy eating habits they had before....Lifetime Member for 18 years

I tried that with my mom, but I hated it because i still could eat whatever I want because I exercised so much, ehich lets you eat more points. I would just do the calorie thing: exercise, even just walking three times a week, eat up to 1,000 calories a day, eat breakfast and break your meals into a lot of smaller snacks to keep your metabolism up. The trick to not gaining weight back once you quit is to keep your metabolism up. Also, eating lots of fruits and veggies are awesome because they keep you energetic and you can eat as many as you want because there's next to nil or actually zero calories in them, yet eating them keeps your metabolism up, and it helps keep you form getting sick or hurt so easily. It's also great, because then it's not just every single meal you're looking at but..I have a party later today or had one yesterday, so I'll eat more veggies and less fattening food this morning or the day or two after. Also, when you're really hungry, have some milk, cheese, yougurt, meat (turkey's excellent for you healthwise), beans, or some other form of protein to help ypu feel fuller, but just pay attention, because you need to eat less of that, paired with something less calorific to actually feel full. You'll get the hang of it after a while. It's really a matter of if you need other people to compare yourself to and help keep you on track. You can always tell all your friends and family members so they help you stick to whatever plan your on, but sometimes they're not the kind of support you really need. So you really need to just lookl at your own life and what fits it. But I like the calorie/exercise/small frequent meal thing because it lets me eat almopst whatever I want, I just have to be conscious about it and balance it with my other meals. Good luck! :)

As with any "diet" most fail because people don't continue to incorporate what they learned while on the diet into their lifestyles. Weight Watchers is good because it allows you to eat any foods you enjoy, there are no restrictions on any types of food, it just helps you become aware of portion control and how to eat healthier.
