at that price ramge u can get a lot of good bikes. but the main thing that u have to look for is the brand and the parts. 4 1grand u should consider getting companys like haro, kona, norco, specialized, trek, cannondale, fox, yamaha(rare),giant and gt. start with kona, specialized and giant they make good bikes and they are cheap for bikes within the same range. for kona look for stuff, lavadom or scrap
norco:shore series
haro:v series
specialized:any thing they are all good and cheap
ironhorse:make almost unbreakable bikes but they are heavy
banshee:morphine series

before buying the bike make sure that the dimonds of the frame should be small and points upwards the tyres should be wide and with lots of rubber studs. the fork should have atleast 100mm of travel better if beond 130mm. the suspention brand that you should look for is marzochii or rock shock they are the most common ones. if you dont like the suspention then you might consider spending an other 500$ on bomber shocks they are good qualityed stuff. i recomand a hard tail because they are easier to ride up hill and gives lots of air. and is cheaper and lighter. you should look for disk breaks but if the bike dont come with them v breaks are good too exept over time they dig into your rim and shorten the rim's life.

hope this helps.

Well, for 1,000 bucks you can buy a nice hardtail, or a started full suspension bike. If you're starting, a hardtail will help you better with the technique.

For all around hardtails, the common fork travel length is around 80 to 100mm of travel, and some have 130mm.

I think you should go to several bike shops and see what they offer, how the bike fits you (very, very important, if not, is like having an Armani two sizes too small).

There are some standards that are function of a "genuine" mountain motorbike which will placed you on a singletrack with out limit. those are a cassette type hub for rear stability and your protection, a front fork to soften the bumps and preserve the physique from pointless injury, double wall rims so which you will hit stumbling blocks and not want new wheels, and a useful drivetrain which will enable you to shift rapidly on a similar time as going up a hill. Going with the favourite American heavyhitters, you would be staring at, a minimum of: The Cannondale path 5 or above the great Revel a million or above The appropriate Hardrock The Trek 4300 Gary Fisher Marlin, or above frequently, this suits you into the 5 to 600 greenback funds. Disc brakes are superb, yet no longer vital like numerous different issues I listed. For drivetrain factors, seem for Alivio, Deore, or above, or with Sram, x.4 or up for reliability. for speedy rolling tires which will additionally artwork on the course... attempt working WTB nanoraptors front and rear, you will desire a superb, speedy commuter on or off highway.

I would said a SG$1000, you won't get a bike with XT and XTR as full XT cost about SG$1000 and full XTR cost more than SG$1500, so SG$1000 you can only get lower than that from a new bike (unless you buy 2nd hand). Kona Kikapu and Haro R3 full sub cost about SG$1000. A very good start for you as it better part given than other brands and there a local dealer in the east. (As full sub better in control in trail) YOU WILL LOVE MUD

there are TONS of bikes in that price range, i have a Klein and i like Specialized too, Giant is ok, i love Cannondale, Gary fisher is good, etc... I would stick with a hardtail with front suspension from 80-100mm of travel - should be plenty. Look for either Sram components or Shimano XT or XTR. check out Mtbr.com.
