Wulber 197, when you are playing online it is harder to be disciplined because you are in your comfort zone (home) and don't have to worry about people critizing your play, bad breath, body odor (unless it is your own), throwing cards, etc, you have a dealer who does not make mistakes and all of you counting is done for you, it is very easy to get too comfortable and push the mouse and bet the house as they say. When I play online I set parameters by which I stick to, for instance in holdem I won't pre-flop raise unless I have a pair Queens or better, or AK, AQ and depending on position very rarely with a smaller pair. I will call pre-flop with any pair unless it is raised and re-raised, then I know that if I have a pair of 10's or less any flop with J to Ace on board will scare me and I will not have control. Also depends on position as to whether to call with 2 to a flush or a straight.
On the flop if you do not improve your hand or improve your draw FOLD, someone in the game inproved so your chance has diminished. If you improve your hand (trips, two pair) you might consider a raise, if you get a big flush draw just call, you should not bet on a drawing hand unless you feel a bet will get your opponents out.
Staying on the turn is dependent on whether or not you make your draw, improve your hand and what your opponents do, no improvement and it is checked to you, you can check or try a raise to get out weaker drawing hands or small pairs.
The RIVER, the hated river you make your hand, then bet, you miss your hand and someones comes out with a bet then fold.
Anyway I did not plan to go through a complete hand sequence, my advise is always plan your strategy on your first two cards, just say to yourself "would I go all in with these two" and that will help your discipline.
In Omaha, two rules of thumb:
1. No ace in the hand, fold
2. If you are not drawing for the nuts or do not have the nuts..fold
Good luck

Here's what helped me. Play every hand as if the chip leader is going to go all in. If you're not willing to put that much down on the hand, then junk it. Soon, you'll know which hands you can keep (barring the occasional "Well, I haven't played in awhile and I'm big blind, screw it I'm in" hand)
If you are in until the flop, then always keep in mind the best hand possible and match it against the hand you have. For example: if you have a pair of aces, and the flop gives a 7,8,9 of spades, there's a flush draw and a straight draw on the board. You'll never win with a pair of aces, if someone bets big, its time to fold. Don't worry about bluffs until you get some more experience. As I said, once you know when to hold 'em and fold 'em, then you can worry about bluffs and tricky betting.

Become educated...Read some books....if it's a loose game than only play the first 2 levels of the sklansky chart if you really need help...experience will make you better, do not play for money if you play 75% of hands all the way down, that's about 73% too many...

What does it matter for play money? For real money, you have to ask yourself whether paying for the next card will increase your chances of winning the pot. For instance, if you hold Jh 8d and the flop is Ad, Qc and a 3d, what are your chances of winning that hand? Realistically, it's not that good with the two over cards on the board. You should fold to any decent size bet. Play with your head, not with hope.

*sighs* Okay...someone report me for spam here, cuz I'm going to throw in a plug for my poker league. Can't help it, but it's the only way to help the guy be more disciplined in his play. It's a fake money league, by the way, with no money at all to sign-up. Hell, I volunteer for them.
And as for your chasing/donkey problem, go to the other site for chasing odds.

I do not like playing online because I try to read people. Second of all...never gamble online...I had friends that have lost big. As far as your problem...my thing is be conservative online...you're not fooling anyone. If you have a crappy hand...fold.
