They say "barrier methods" (condoms, diaphragm) are best because there are no hormones involved.

Barrier methods are best- this would be anything without hormone. Including spermicidal foams, jellies, condoms, female condoms and the sponge has now made a comeback. Also Diaphragms are great to use during this time, but keep in mind that these have to be a snug fit to your cervix, so most practitioners will wait until about 8 weeks following delivery to fit a diaphragm. If you are interested in a hormonal method- mini-pills (progesterone only pills) are safe. The one name brand you can look into is Micronor. Depo Provera injections are also safe since they are progestin only. And if you arent planning to have another child for a while IUDs are also great, but can not be put in place until your 6 week check due to your shrinking uterus. Keep in mind that all methods have pros and cons and that you should research what would be best for the situation you are in. Best of Luck to you!

IUD's are always in place, there are no chemicals involved and they can be left in for up to ten years now.
