Here is my personal advise for this question:

Step one: Think about getting a tattoo (permanent body art, that is kinda painful) for about 6 months to a year.

Step two: If after 6 months to a year your pretty cool with the idea, find a GOOD, PROFESSIONAL tattoo place and flip through the art books, talk to the people who would be doing the tat, ask questions about the history of the place, see if they have pics of other tats they have done and generally get the feel for the place.

Step three: If the tat place is cool by you, then pick out a design and figure out where you want to have it permanently placed on your body.

Step four: Wait about 3-6 months more and if you still want a tat after all that time and you've found a good professional place to go and you know exactly what tattoo you want and where you want the tattoo, then go get a tattoo.

I'm speaking as someone who has a tat. I've been wanting to get another tattoo for about 2 years now and I just recently determined what I would like to get and where, now I'm just waiting to make sure that I don't change my mind.

It's easy to change your mind now, BEFORE you get the tat, but remember it's really, really hard to change your mind later on.

Hope this advise helps. :)

Getting a tattoo is a personal choice and whether or not other people think you should get one should not be the first concern. Do you want a tattoo? Is there a tattoo that you would like to have on your body that will be there permanently? If the answer to those two questions are yes definitively then go for it but if there is doubt which there must be or you wouldn't look for approval even from stranger then maybe you should think about it for a while longer until you are sure without anyone else's opinion.

The question You should really ask yourself is "Do you want a tattoo in the first place?" Don't get a tattoo because you saw somebody with it and you liked it! Or because a friend of yours got one and now you want it! I got mine because i love tattoos! I think of them as art and self expression! i have 2 so far and My Man has 8! They all mean something personal and they have a story behind them! The same for mine! I don't have anyone elses name on me and neither does he! So ask yourself those kinds of questions and decide from that! I waited 4 years to decide if i wanted one! I was 22 when i got my first one and as soon as i left I already wanted another one! so i took 6 more months to see what I wanted! Now i'm doin the same for my next one! I already have the item and i'm goin next weekend! SO i know what i want And the same person that did my first tattoo did the second and they will do the 3rd! My man goes to the same person I go to so it's like I'm with my friends when I'm there! We laugh, joke and eat! They make it a very relaxing experience like your at home almost! Any place you get your tattoo from should be an environment where you feel relaxed and at ease!

It's all up to you..... People are going to try and discourage you but if you really want one you are not going to care. Get something you won't REGRET in the future, like a flower, a apple, your name, what the hell ever. As long as you know that a tattoo does not define who you are, or make you a bad person, and all that other nonsense people conjure up in their minds. My first tatto was my mother's name on my wrist. So I say, what the hell, GET ONE!!!!!!! Just a little warning, it is true when they say tattooes are addictive. No matter how bad you may think it hurts while you are getting it you are going to want another one when you see how pretty it turns out.... Good Luck =)

I have four. While getting my first tat, I almost passed out. I told myself that I would never get another one. But three more later, I'm working on my next one. I am the type of person that can't watch to give blood. I believe tatting is addicting. I also look at tatts as art.

I wouldn't go putting any body's name on your body unless they are your own children. Children will always be around.etc.

If you decide to get a tat make sure it is something you want to see the rest of your life. It's a lot harder to cover up are fully remove one. (expensive too)

Doesn't matter if you want one now - think about in 10 or 15 years if you're still going to like whatever you picked out.

I personally change so much over a couple years that I can promise you if i had gotten a tattoo a couple years ago, I'd HATE it now.

Keep in mind where you're going to get it too - back tattoos show up in wedding pictures and that's just trashy...

Yeah, why not? Just remember that you'll have it for life unless you want the scar it will leave if you decide to get it removed even laser removal will leave a scar, my daughter had laser removal and there is a scar and really think about where you put it. You might need to dress formally sometime and not want it to show.

It depends on what it will be, where it will be, and if you could stand to have it for the rest of your life (or are willing to do laser removal later on).

I designed my own and it is on my right ankle. I have had it for about 3 years and my love for it is still going strong.

No matter how many people answer and no matter what they say, it will still need to be a personal decision on your end.

Alot of deep thought should go into a tattoo. The ink will be with you forever. Avoid names. And think about how you will feel about your body when you're old, gray, and wrinkly. Also, think of how it could affect your career.
I love tattoos myself, and I think they're worth it if you pick something that will not change in your life(like, in my case, a love for animals).
