My pup will be flying with us on a 2 hour direct flight for Christmas. Does anyone have experience with in-cabin travel with animals? Do the dimensions that airlines list refer to hard sided kennels? We will use a soft-sided one, and he just fits into the dimensions that they specify. I just want to make sure we'll be okay.

If the dimensions of your carrier meets the airline's standards you should be okay with that.

Cabin pressure may be painful for your dog if it has any sort of ear trouble. You can get medication from your vet to help calm the dog down and ease any pain it might be in during flight.

Don't feed the dog the day of the flight. You don't want it pooping or vomitting on the plane.

Let it have ice cubes to lick to keep it hydrated rather than allowing it to gulp down lots of water.

Keep it warm. Give it a blanket with your scent on it to help it cope.

When you get to your destination, let it go right to bed somewhere. Dogs can suffer from emotional "jet lag" just like people can.

The next morning, feed it its regular diet and try to keep it's daily routine as close to "normal" for it as you can.

Keep your dog on a leash at all times. If it's in a strange place and runs off or gets separated from you, it can become disoriented and be unable to find you.

Most airlines require the hard type of kennel cabs, and the dimensions should be large enough for your pet to be able to stand without the head and body touching the top,and be able to turn around in the cab freely, but small enough to fit under the plane seat ,unlees it will be put in baggage area. Also must have food and water cup attached.

I would check with your airline carrier. Over the pass several months the airlines have adjusted their policies. I know one airline is now only allowing hard sided carrier. Most carriers will not allow you to drug your animal. Each airline has a special dept to handle travel animals so contact them first. For your on peace of mind get the names of people you talk to so in the event someone tells you something different when you check in you have some one to fall back on as holiday travel is stressful enough. Good Luck...

i replaced right into a flight attendant for a substantial airline for practically 20 years, while you're questioning the source. Your canines must be relatively fantastic. they generally placed them decrease than the seat, and that i've got considered no difficulty in all of the years I relatively have flown. do in basic terms no longer take the canines out at any time in the process the flight, this is against wellness regulations. additionally they enable a million canines in line with cabin until the regulations have replaced interior the previous couple of years. i desire the little fellow enjoys his experience. puppy him by the cage nonetheless, they have an inclination to get apprehensive on take off and landing, with all of the noise and all. have relaxing.

give it a traquilizer (ask ur vet for some and the appropriate amount) and get a cage that is only big enough for it to turn around not bigger because it could hurt itself put a little food adn water in adn it should be set. O and make sure to label the crate well so it is not lost.

What breed do you have. It isnt safe to fly a "flat-faced" dog. Like, pugs, shihtzu, bulldogs. The air pressure makes it difficult for them to breath.
