My pup will be flying with us on a 2 hour direct flight for Christmas. Does anyone have experience with in-cabin travel with animals? Do the dimensions that airlines list refer to hard sided kennels? We will use a soft-sided one, and he just fits into the dimensions that they specify. I just want to make sure we'll be okay.

1. Call the airline for rules.
2. Get the dog to a vet prior to going...he'll give you sedative for the dog prior to departure.
3. You have to buy your own kennel to bring to the airport.
4. Provide the dog with some comforting piece of your clothing ...soft, fleesy that you have worn...the scent will relax him/her.
5. On arrival give the dog a drink of water immediately. The dog will be groggy for another day.

I was a flight attendant for a major airline for nearly 20 years, in case you are questioning the source. Your dog should be absolutely fine. They usually put them under the seat, and I have seen no problem in all the years I have flown. Just don't take the dog out at any time during the flight, it is against health regulations. They also allow 1 dog per cabin unless the rules have changed in the last few years. I hope the little fellow enjoys his ride. Pet him through the cage though, they tend to get nervous on take off and landing, with all the noise and all. Have fun.

We used to travel our dog..a collie cross but she traveled in the hold in a purpose made crate. It had to have access rear and front and have water for her. The fail safe method is to contact the airline to double check the dimensions as all the rules have most likely changed since I traveled. Some containers you can buy say if they are suitable for air travel or not but this isn't always the fact. If your puppy is in the cabin with you that will help anyway. Take baby wipes and nappy bags just in case...a botttle of water and plastic cup, small drink only and if needed. ...no food on the morning of travel. it's a reasonably short flight. Talk to her when possible. Put a toy and a blanket they know in the travel box with them. Take some spare newspaper for the box too. Have a good trip !!!!

DON'T put it in the cargo hold. This can be a terrifying experience for the dog, especially the first time. Keep the lil guy in the cabin with you. Call the airline to be sure of the dimensions

We flew from Hawaii to San Diego and had our silky terrier in the cabin with us (in a soft-sided dog carrier). It fit under the seat for take off and landing and all we did was have our hands inside the carrier during those times so she could feel and smell us, and as soon as they turned off the fasten seat belts sign, we put the carrier in our laps so she could see and hear us. She was fine after a few minutes and slept for most of the flight. Good Luck!

Remember many people are petrified of dogs. Try to keep your little sweetie quiet and occupied with treats and his/her toys. Call the airline and ask if you can use a soft-sided kennel. I heard of one airline that would not let a passenger use a soft-sided kennel.

Flying isn't the answer dudette.
You have to like totally take a whole different kind of plane, man.
Like you do a little shroomy and bit of buddie and coast the ethereal plane with your poochie.
There's like, no turbulence or boarding crap to hassle with, man.
The man can't get you if he doesn't know where you're at.
Like you know what I mean, like mentally, dudette?
Rock on and trippy days.

Put your dog in baggage, not the compartment for humans. Many people are alergic and the air in planes is bad enough without imposing your dog dandruff and smell on others. Your clothes are already bring in stuff that causes alergic reactions.
Please respect others.
