Don't call me "lady" for a starter. I'm a woman.

If it's a first date, a gift should be something small that doesn't create expectations. If possible, it should relate to something that you already know about the person you are dating (her taste in music? does she like flowers?). Perhaps it's best to offer to pay for some aspect of the date (movie tickets or a meal) rather than put her on the spot.

Also, what does "too 90s" mean? No-one in the 1990s gave flowers as gifts -- that was considered very 1980s. The 90s was about grunge, hiphop, environmentalism and grrl power. I would have crushed flowers under my boots.

Dorothy Parker said that gifts have been an issue between men and women ever since Eve gave Adam the apple. Wait and see who this person is as a person before you attempt to give her a gift.

First I would like to say, wow a man that brings a gift on a first date, are there more of you?
Flowers are so cheezy and typical, but if your going to go the flower route, do NOT bring roses...boring.....bring her a lily or some daises.
The cutest thing I've ever seen, is a bouqet of those little candy flowers, they last forever and are colourful and hard to miss.
Anything butterfly, butterflies symbolize freedom, growth and change, I've never met a girl that didn't like a butterfly. Good luck, I hope it goes well!!

how bout a big fat ring that is a nice gift. but if were talking serious than were talking some chocolates, roses, or something like htat that is not cheap but not too expensive. i want to go off topic to a good gift for a later topic, which i will, but first i must say dont get cheap chocolates of roses get the best u can afford. then later on maybe the 20th date or 4 months in have a 4 month anniversary. give her a meal at a fancy restaraunt in a fancy car or limo, and give her a ring at hte best u can afford, or something on the more expensive side.
GOOD LUCK MAN!

Don't get too fancy a single rose or another flower that you have heard she likes. It sounds like you really like this young woman so the best thing you can do is be yourself, make her laugh, take her somewhere special to you (not your favorite bar) go for a walk in the moonlight, hold her hand and make it a truly romantic evening. These are the kind of things a girl will remember forever.

Flowers is a nice idea that will never expire! Try going with a single rose, or a couple lilies maybe? Avoid the whole, huge bouquet thing for a first timer. Maybe a small, unusual stuffed animal. A guy gave me a little owl one time, and I never forgot it just because it was an OWL.

Flowers would be nice, Since it is your first date then that should mean something small. You really don't know this person, don't want to spend much money on that person, cause the first date could really suck, just some regular flowers, no roses

a single red rose. this would be perfect because it's not overdoing it. if you brought her an entire bouquet she might get a little freaked out and think you're getting too serious about her too fast. at the same time, a single red rose shows that you really like her. of course, it seems kind of traditional, but you don't want to be too over-the-top on a first date. just the fact that you are considering a gift on the first date is a sincere and extremely nice thing to do--any girl would be crazy not to be flattered.

I think flowers are really nice. But if you know the person well or are the sentimental type, you can pick out something that is symbolic of how you met or a token of something you know about the person.

Well I'm 19...but I can tell you that flowers are usually a good and safe idea. Find out what kind of flowers she likes and surprise her!

DON'T BRING A GIFT ON THE FIRST DATE

that shows desperation, bro. To make the first date memorable, you have to be yourself, make good conversation, pay attention to her and be polite. That's all.

Don't buy her a gift until the third date. Buy something that shows you've been listening to what she says - for example, if her sorority colors are purple and white, buy her some potted violets. It has to be something cheap or it's desperate, and it has to be specific to the relationship you're trying to form.

Good luck bro.
