I have a Jack Russell Terrier who is a wonderful house dog. We kennel him during the day when we're at work and at night when we're sleeping. He rarely has accidents and if he does, we just rinse out the kennel. They can be very hyper when they're little, so you have to be patient and firm, but overall they are very smart and loving dogs. I bought my dog for $300, but they range from $250-$500. They have few health problems, also. They usually don't get more than about 20 lbs.

I recommend http://www.petfinder.com You can search by breed age, sex, location, etc. Thousands of listings from all over. Millions of unwanted pets are turned into shelters each year, so adoption is a great idea! The only small dogs I have had are Beagles and they are just wonderful. They are very loyal and incredibly sweet. I have one now and he loves to cuddle, so if you are looking for a lap dog, they would be perfect! Shedding is minimal, they don't eat a lot, barking is minimal if at all, and the chance of one being aggressive is very very slim. They are great with kids and adults.

Go to your local shelter or rescue organization.
They all have great big and small house dogs. My dogs are all large and are rescued. Please, do not buy a dog from a pet store or newspaper, all pet store dogs come from puppy mills and are Very sick even if they appear healthy, their parents all have bad genes and their are inbred. And when you do find the dog you are looking for I suggest you feed him/her Wellness, Lassie Natural Way or Nutro Natural Choice small bites, then your champion will live a nice long and healthy life!!!! :)
Hope this helps.

the toy breeds are so hard 2 housebreak.. some never learn.. you might want 2 go a step higher in height... some toy's will not play.. they just like being held.. not much fun in that.. but yes the humane society, is a great place 2 start looking : )

your local SPCA, better to save a helpless dogs life, than going to pet store, who sells puppies from a puppy mill.....
