My daughter is 11 months old and has her top teo teeth and her bottom two teeth. Now that she hasd just gotten the top ones, she has this horrible habit of grinding them together. She doesnt do it all the time but I catch her doing it alot when she plays. Is this normal for children her age?

I have a one year old who has the same teeth, and I have never seen her grind her teeth. You should ask her doctor if it's normal, and if there is anything you can do to get her to stop.

Entirely...

In case you never noticed yourself.... the first thing that becomes apparent when the front incisors are replaced tends to be that the new ones are bumpy and uneven along the cutting surface.

I always remember when I was at that age I was annoyed that my old teeth had been fairly smooth-edged and the new ones were all uneven and bumpy.... and my mother said she had got hers filed down to make them smoother.
Chances are that your daughter has noticed the bumpiness of the teeth and may be attempting to reduce it by grinding her teeth together to wear it down. You may want to tell her the following:

#1. It won't work. (I've been trying to grind down my incisors since that age, and they're still rather bumpy)
#2. Its perfectly natural.
#3. They cut food better if they're bumpy (higher pressure between bumps... like a serrated knife).

If thats not her reasoning though, I don't know what it is. It could be that she doesn't know herself....

oh yeh.. it's something new... she'll cut it out.. make sure when you catch her doing it you tell her to stop in your special way.

remember teeth grinding can last for ages.. make sure she doesn't get caught up in it.. i still do it... once in a while i succeed in not doing it.. then i fail... then stop then start...

it's bad in the long run.. redundant grinding can do alot of damage.

Yes, it's normal. My kids did it, too. I can't stand the sound, so it drove me nuts! But it will pass, don't worry.
