I know that black hair is different from white hair, and thus we use different products. I was wondering if it's ok to use herbal essence hair coloring products on black hair? I wouldn't do it myself and I would go to my hair dresser to get it done... Should I just let her use her coloring products? I know I should probably consult with her first, but I'm just wondering what people here say.

I'm not gonna color it myself- I'm going to my stylist.
My hair is not black, it's brown.

I'm not coloring my whole head, just subtle highlights/streaks.

I've had my hair highlighted before and it didn't damage my hair... (in response to an answer)

i don't know. i use Nice-N-Easy. It all depends on the type and texture of your hair, and your genes.

And if your hairdresser is really good, she would tell you that highlights for black people are not good! My hairdresser told me that highlights only last for a good month, and when they start to fade away, they will take your hair out! She makes any woman who wants them to sign a consent form saying that she told them what will happened, and that she's not responsible for what WILL happen to your hair.

i don't think that the color would show up. i think there may actually be special coloring products for your type hair. and if you try to lighten it, it's gunna turn yellow just because it's black. your stylist knows how to take that yellow out.

I would get your hair stylist to color your hair, especially if it is dark and needs more lightening than say, a person with thinner lighter hair would need.

I would just stick to my regular stylist if i were you. Most of them time we as African Americans need extra moisture...and most of the time products made for caucasions does not have that extra moisture we need.
