Yes, Christians can drink alcohol. But the Bible condemns drunkeness. There is a BIG difference between sipping on a glass of wine and chugging down a whole keg of beer in one night. And if by you drinking an alcoholic beverage causes another brother to stumble, then you should refrain from drinking it.

The Bible does not declare drinking to be a sin, but it sure as heck does declare drunkenness to be a sin. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding in Cana, and the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy to take some wine for his stomach troubles in one of the letters he wrote to him, so why would Jesus provide wine and why would an Apostle tell another to drink wine if it was a sin in the eyes of God? See, some Christians like to mention a quote from the Apostle Paul (I think it was in his second letter to the Corinthians, but I'm not sure) where he says "All things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial." They take that to mean that Christians shouldn't drink because (a) there's plenty of other stuff we can drink, unlike in the First Century A.D., and (b) there's no benefit to drinking alcohol -- which we know isn't true; recent research shows that having one or two glasses of red wine every night is actually good for you (lowers blood pressure, has vital antioxidants, etc.) Can Christians drink? Sure. Should they drink? Depends. We're supposed to be a light unto the world, so we should not set a bad example by getting sloshed, but having one or two is OK -- just don't drive right afterward.

I don't see a debate here. Jesus drank alcohol. That is clearly outlined in the miricle of the water to wine and in the fact that Jesus said people called him a winbibber (drunk) because he drank alcohol. Now a glass of wine with dinner is good for you but not for me. I am alcoholic and when I drink I am a fool and I do things and make decisions that are more then foolish. So for me it is a big time sin. For others it is an awesome way to relax a bit. We are free in Christ Jesus. We know what is sin and what isn't its a Holy Spirit thing.
May GOD richly bless you

Personally I do believe that it is okay for a Christian to drink alcohol. As long as they don't get drunk and abuse alcohol. Alot of Christians believe the wine in the bible was not as strong as our current alcohol. I don't buy that. The New Testament tells us not to be drunk with wine. I think an occassional drink with dinner or a celebration is fine.

The bible says to do all things in moderation.

If a person has an addictive personality, whether a Christian or not, they should stay far away from alcohol as possible.

There are many scriptures that show Christians drinking wine.
Jesus turned water into wine at the wedding in Caanan, Paul told one of his students(can't remember the name) to drink wine to help his ulcer.

Then there are scriptures in Proverbs and pauls epistles that tell us not to get to drunk and others tell us not to even take of intoxicating drink.

I personally think that as a Christian we are held to higher standards as everybody is watching us for one of two reasons: either to believe or to call us a hypocrite.

So for me; no a Christian should not drink, but will it send one to hell for drinking? NO.

Nothing wrong with alcohol. Wine is actually good for you. You're just not supposed to drink in excess or become addicted.

No. God tells us to avoid it. It alters what we think, say and do. WE should be under our clear conscience. Alcohol lowers inhibitions and encourages us to lead astray. Definitely NO.
The wine in the bible was juice of the fruit..it was not fermented and it was not of alcohol content!
