our resources are scarced, and the world is becoming more and more polluted by day. It is possible for mankind to survive for a relatively long period of time? our oil is draining everday and conservation of nature is not enough to preserve this world.
What do you think?

> When will mankind become extinct?
We don't know. At present, the most likely scenarios for extinction would be:
1. Devastating warfare
2. Fast-spreading fatal disease
Less likely, but still possible would be
3. Bombardment by relativistic missiles of extraterrestrial origin (see The Killing Star by Charles Pellegrino for an explanation of why that could happen).

The things you've mentioned, diminishing of resources, pollution, loss of fossil fuels, would be enough to make life harsher and reduce our population, but not enough to exterminate us. There will still be plenty of places where hunting/gathering and subsistence agriculture would be possible, for a world population of a few tens of millions.

My guess is that humans will live on for at least 100,000 years. But that does not mean we will live in a comfortable, technological society. It is entirely possible than some disaster will kill off most people, but not all people. The remnant of humanity would then live in a primitive way until, or if, they could rebuild their lost technological culture.

Another possibility is that we genetically engineer ourselves into another species. In that case, humans would be extinct but we would have living descendants who were not what we would consider human. I think this is highly likely, but not certain, and I don't like it one little bit. I think I would prefer the first possibility above.

But I really don't know. Nobody does.

well unless we find some way to populate another planet then we know for a fact that or deadline is 4 billion years when the andromeda galaxy collides with ours.

Unless of course we screw it up ourselves. We need to find a new planet to populate a lot quicker because we will have used up this one's natural rescorces before then.
