When the New Testament was being pulled together, this book was almost rejected by the "official" canon, and was noted as disputed by others....was almost rejected again in a later vote; and finally was declared by Martin Luther to be "neither apostolic nor prophetic".

Why is there such an obsession with a book that almost was never included in the Bible, is so different from the other books John supposedly wrote, and was rejected by many early influential Christian leaders????

A poster questioned whether Revelation was almost left out of the Bible?

Eusebius - Ecclesiastical History - noted the book as disputed

St. Athanasius INCLUDED it, and then many church leaders at the Council of Rome did not.

And during the Protestant Reformation (the father of most American Christians), Martin Luther made the above quote.

I also find it curious that many people dont' care HOW the Bible arrived in its current form, only that it exists in that form in 2006. It certainly clears up a lot of confusion regarding fundamentalist views towards science.

All religions have an end-of-the-world myth. And in every religion there are a limited number of people who become mesmerized by this imagery. They usually are persons with morbid preoccupations and control issues.

The Book of Revelation describes what events will be going on in the end times, just before the second coming of Christ.

By the way, read and study the Book of Revelation. You will find that many of the things the Book has as prophecy is now starting to occur. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the world will end by tonight or anything, I am just saying some of the things Revelations says will happen at the end are starting to happen now. For a book that was labeled as not prophetic, it sure has accurately predicted world events so far.

Most likely because the Book of the Revelation deals so much with the "end times", the time that we are, according to the prophecies, living in today.

When read in context with the other books of the Bible, most people seem to believe that we will see "the end of this system of things". It promises that these things will happen in our lifetime, that "God will wipe every tear from their eye" and that "Neither mourning, nor outcry, nor pain...will be anymore"

People are tired of the way that things are; corrupt governments, the struggle sometimes to just put food on the table, illness, death of loved ones, etc. They yearn for a better way of living and the Book of the Revelation not only points toward those horrible things being done away with, it foretells of the Paradise that will follow. These are things that a LOT of people desire in their lives and so they read The Revelation and find a measure of hope that things will get better.

I would say because the content of this book is so different. No other book in the Bible gives us such an account of the last days. As to why it sounds so different, well, its not like anything else John had ever written because, well, it was not like anything else John had ever written. And as to the whole "barely accepted" remark, all i can say is that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Obsessed? I don't know about all that. I love the entire Bible. The book of Revelation is just telling what's going to happen. It's a wonderful time for Saints of God. I don't care who rejected it. They rejected Christ, it doesn't mean He didn't exist or any validity to Him. It's an awesome book. The whole bible is.

And where is your evidence that it was "almost rejected" as divinely inspired ... ?

Christians have been fascinated by this Book for hundreds of years. Because the prophesies that point to the fact that we're in the end times have been fulfilled, we're understandably excited. But I guess you wouldn't understand, since you doubt what we say.

Just sit back and watch. It's going to be quite a show.

Where will YOU end up?

I am a Christian. What do you mean about being obsessed? I've never heard or seen this.

Outside the US they just aren't, its really more a question about this country than about Christianity.
