Just use a grill pan or a sauce pan on top of your stove. Sorry, you can't use your microwave. Put some butter on it and then you can put your sandwich. I usually flatten it with another pan. Wait until browned and the cheese kind of melts inside. I saw some people use an iron on tv to make grilled cheese. I'm not sure that's safe, though. If you do try it, please be careful. Place it on a big flat plate then place the hot iron on top of your cheese sandwich.

Toasting bread requires heat in the infrared or near-infrared. Microwaves do not toast. They heat up water molecules in the substance being microwaved. Microwaving bread makes it mushy first, then hard as the water evaporates from the dough.
If you want grilled cheese sandwiches from the microwave, save the special cartons from microwave pizza and put the bread on that, with the cheese on top. You will have to experiment to find the right time for your microwave to do the job.
Personally, I find the idea of a microwaved "grilled" cheese sandwich illogical and probably tasteless.

I've tried that in the past. It doesn't work as far as I know. If you put bread in the microwave it will get soggy. you could put it in the oven, but that will take too long. Your best bet is to buy a toaster oven or a toaster. I'm sure you cold buy a toaster for like five or ten dollars somewhere.
If your wanting to make grilled cheese just make it on the stove. DON'T use the microwave, that is a cooking disaster waiting to happen. If you turn your stove to medium butter your bread and flip pretty often. you can make a grilled cheese in no time at all on the stove top.

Microwaves are a bad way of cooking food.
Get rid of your microwave and get a (George Forman style) grill instead, or some other kind of a cooking appliance!
An electric frying pan would work for grilled cheese sandwiches too. You can get an actual plug-in sandwich maker specifically for making sandwiches, but I'd recommend the GF style grill because it's got more uses.
You can't really grill cheese in this one, but a slow cooker is a really good appliance with lots of uses. I have a few different appliances (no microwave), and the slow cooker and the grill are the most useful.
You can often get them for a good price, used or at garage sales, some people just don't get in the habit of using them.

The microwave won't work. I make grilled cheese under the broiler or in a counter-top grill like the George Forman one.

You want it on hard rock bread?microwave never can do that.
Easier if you used Ironing.
Asemble your sandwich wrap it with baking sheet and press with Ironing until golden brown for each side.
No pans,no fire,no toaster neededand no clean up needed.
I did it all time when i was in school dormitory.Simple.
I hear this methode used in jail too.

It won't, you need to do the toast in a toaster first, then put the cheese on & nuke for about 30 seconds.
Any more and that will usually screw up the whole thing.

you cant, atleast if you want it to be crisp. The reason is because microwaves use microwaves to heat up the watermolecules inside of objects and that is how it cooks things. Your bread will just end up being soggy every time.
