O.K., I do this twice each week and you have received a lot of bad info. and partial information.
1) In the Newark Airport look for the airtran signs.
2) BEFORE ....you go up the escalator or on the elevator to get on the airtran monorail look for the NJT (New Jersey Transit) ticket machines, just opposite the escalators.
3) Buy a ticket for New York Penn Station, code 000...note...do not buy a ticket for Newark Penn station...that is wrong.
4) The ticket is $14, and is the termination/last stop ending at Penn statin, 34 th street under Madison Square Garden.
5) Ticket in hand go up the escalator and enter the airtran getting on monorail on your right, ask attendant if confused, depending on the terminal you are in it will be two, three or four stops to the end of the airtran line, plan on ten minutes in the airtran monorail. Get off on the last stop.
6) Go up the escalator or up the elevator on the platfrom. turn left at the top of the escalator and take your NJT ticket, arrow symbol up, mag strip to the left and place in slot at entrance gate. TAKE YOUR TICKET WITH YOU...it pops out on top of the entrance gate on right side after being read by gate machine and opening door for you to enter station.
7) Go to track three, it says NJT...Penn Station...on right, take escalator to platform.
8) Get on train, run every ten minutes or so..
9) Find a seat and place your ticket under ticket holder strap on top of seat back in front of you for the conductor...look around...you will see. The conductor will replace your ticket with a punched NJT receipt that he will collect before you enter Penn Station
10) Depending on the train, you will make either two or three stops with the last stop being New York Penn Station....do not get off at Newark Penn Station....pay attention. This takes 20-30 minutes.
Total time for trip....less than an hour.
11) NY Penn station connects to the subway system, LIRR, Amtrack etc. If you want to stay in the city either use the subway system, cost $2 for a single use ticket, or exit Penn Station and walk around or get a cab...cab line is in front of Madison Square garden at top of exit .

you could take a NJTransit prepare or a private bus (operated by skill of CoachUSA or different return and forth businesses); the two will fee you approximately $15-20 each way. while you're with a set of two-4 people, it relatively is extra inexpensive to take a taxi to Newark Penn Station, and then the trail subway equipment from there into long island. Any of those methods will take an known of roughly an hour, even nonetheless it would be a tad much less or so plenty extra reckoning on site visitors once you're in a bus.

Yes. Take the Air train. It'll take you to the Newark International Airport NJ Transit train stop. This service is free, but you'll have to purchase a ticket for NYC or Newark (about $2-$4, depending upon your destination).
NJ Transit to NYC takes you to * i believe* 33rd street and 7th Avenue ( a few blocks from Times Square). The only stop
in-between is Newark and will take about 15 odd minutes overall.
Other option is to get off at Newark and take the PATH train from there. There are 2 routes: If you want to go to the World Trade site/Wall St, the train is direct from Newark. Cost $1.50 or $2. Time about 30 minutes. If you want to go close to midtown (a few blocks from Times Square), *I believe* by 33rd St. and Broadway, you will have to change trains at Journal Square. Cost and time will be the same.
Frankly, it might be better to take the NJ Transit directly to NYC and take the local train(s) to any place that you want to go to. It would be a lot quicker.

You want to take the New Jersey transit train from Penn Station to Newark Airport. It is direct, but i haven't lived in NYC in 4 years, so I can't remember anything more. I found that that was the easiest way to get to any of the NYC metro airports.

There's one that connects EWR to Penn Station in Newark. From there there are several lines that go to NYC.
Sorry, I don't know the times or costs.
