Possibly your piriformis muscle is tight and irritating the nerve called the sciatic nerve. If you stretch that muscle it should help. You have a few complicating factors, 1) arthritis, 2) DDD. Both could be causing the nerve to be irritated at the nerve root (near the spinal column). In that case, Laser surgery may be an option. It is only done in Florida so you may have to travel, but it would be worth looking into. www.laserspineinstitute.com

Note: to stretch the piriformis, lay flat on the floor, pull your knee towards your chest and at an angle towards the opposite shoulder (left knee to rt shoulder). hold for 30 sec to one minute. Make sure the stretch only "stretches" and doesn't cause lots of pain. No pain no gain is not a positive thing in this case. You should feel the stretch in the buttock area and maybe slightly in the leg.

You probably have some sciatic nerve involvment. The best thing I did for this was to go to a trigger point massage therapist. The "trigger point" is essential,,,dont just go to a massage therapist. You can usually get this treatment approved for insurance payment if your doctor recommends it.

sounds like either a result of the disk problem or sciatic nerve getting pinched because of inflammation in your bottom.... dr would be able to do tests for sure

I think I understand your pain. I think you might of hurt your tailbone at some time. You should get your coccyx/sacrum x-rayed. www.coccyx.org
