The matricula is now accepted by 800 local law enforcement agencies and 74 banks, as well as by 13 states for purposes of obtaining a driver’s license. This is the best way we can identify people that are going to be in the country anyway...

The debate seems to me to be about making a decision whether to let people who knowingly and willingly break our laws be rewarded for their violations. This is a pretty senseless debate, and it hinges on one idea: if enough people chose to break the law should the law be changed to legalize their actions? So if one person breaks a law that is one thing and the person is legitimately guilty and should be punished, but if 5 million people break the same law are they not just as guilty? Should the punishment not be the same as if one person broke the law?

Look at it another way: if enough people go out and rob banks does this mean bank robbery should be legalized? And while we are debating this, should we give special privileges to bank robbers already in custody?

This is what the debate is really all about, and while self-serving politicians try to conjure up ways to get more votes from non-citizens, there should be NO additional advantages given to illegal Mexican immigrants who just happen to have approval of Mexican officials to enter the US illegally. This thing has to be settled first or the problems will ripple all the way up to the head of the line.

that the matricula consular is not a reliable form of identification,"
said Steven McCraw,
assistant director of the FBI's intelligence office.
"There are major criminal threats posed by the cards
and they allow a potential terrorist threat."

Resembling a driver's license
and displaying the bearer's address in the United States,
the cards are issued by Mexican consulates to Mexican citizens,
whether or not they are legally in this country.

by more than 70 U.S. banks,
800 police departments
and numerous local governments.



Currently, consular IDs are not valid
for admittance to federal buildings,
but the Transportation Security Administration
accepts them for air travelers.

Proponents of reducing immigration
have criticized the matriculas
as providing an incentive for illegal migration.

"The fact that so many localities
have made the decision to accept consular cards
for domestic identification purposes,
without guidance from the federal government,
is a source of concern,"
said Rep. John Hostettler, R-Ind.,
chairman of the House Judiciary Committee's
immigration subcommittee.

"No background checks are run.
No investigation is undertaken to assess the possible risk
that an alien poses to the American people."

No ,because they are handed out like candy to anyone that wants one,so they have no validity at all.The states that recognize them should not do so.Illegal aliens with matricula consular are still just illegal,their status doesn't change.

More right to immigrants? Hmmmmmmm, lets see, they get free Health Care, Free Educations, get jobs because they are Immigrants. Not because they know how to do the job, but because they are an immigrant. Get GREAT Tax breaks, they don't have to pay any, they don't have to follow our laws, because the can play the "Me No know your Laws" card, Drink and Drive, get into accidents and don't have to pay for any of the damage... Come on now! More Rights to Immigrants, yeah right.

Most Immigrants are pissed off at the Spanish Immigration that is going on right now, only because they hadn't thought of it first and are seeing how the USA is bending over backwards to give the Spanish immigrant every thing they want and tones more they never thought to ask for.

So I say NOT only know, but Hell ******* NO!

The right afforded to illegal aliens are quite plain and well spelled out.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to be speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense.

Actually, if we were under any circumstances be going to give rights before solving the problem (and I hope we won't) we would have to have secure ID. the MC in NO WAY qualifies. Even non-Mexicans get them, saying they are Mexican.

Not sure what kind of right you are talking about, but I know for sure they will never be rights like a Permanent Resident or US citizen would have.

These people are coming into this country ILLEGALLY. That last word is very important. They should not be collecting Social Security or welfare benefits either.
