Rephrasing your question in another way to answer it .. if I had the wrong idea about God, the result would be me thinking that God does'nt exist. But if I knew the real God, I would believe in Him.
That's what a number of philosophers and major christian writers say in their writings .. eg AW Tozer, JI Packer. Mainly that our view of God, how we see Him, and what we believe about Him defines how we relate to Him.
So I agree, if my beliefs about God (whether I'm an atheist/agnostic/christian/whatever)
are limiting, eg, I can effectively deny His power, yet while still, amazingly, hold to essential beliefs about Him.
I think this can be so because we can take on a hodge-podge of incongruent, even completely contradicting beliefs. And taking on a certain belief doesn't 'oust' any other competing ones.
It means that there is'nt integrity or wholeness in us, but by no means unfeasible. We are complex. It would show up as confusingly inconsistent types of actions, thoughts and behaviours.
I think that if we have a set of beliefs that are to do with, say, family, or work, these will create an environment that makes it either easier or harder to take on more healthy, fulfilling beliefs.
So as the collection of our beliefs changes, how much we [are open to] believe in the 'real' God changes (even to the extent of whether we are an atheist or not).

Hi, I am Rational Spirituality,
To me your question seems perfectly clear and very interesting.
I believe that those atheists who have their minds open and seek the Truth, whatever the Truth may be, are likely to be persuaded by a valid argument showing the existense of a real God in rational terms. I believe that most of those people who call themselves atheists simply cannot agree with religious doctrines that contradict logic and common sense, but that does not mean that they would be against God.
If you know such people, run past them Rational Spirituality on the Dhaxem website.

Everyone should believe in God. Sadly enough not all do. They can declare themselves atheists but deep inside they know God is real because we are all seeds of Christ. Just because they deny his existence does not make him disappear. They choose not to see him because they have fallen so lost in their sin and seperated themselves so far away from him that they can't see or hear him anymore. God never left them...they wandered away from God. If they want to get forgiven and get back with God, they can but they must go to the Father.

Aha! You found a REAL one. Bully for you. But why keep us in suspense? Just let us know who/what the REAL one is. It would be a welcome change from the absurd myths we've had to endure so far. And I hope it's a better model than the reinvented desert tyrant whose vanity is such he requires daily worship and praise - and who punishes all those who don't "adore" him with eternal pain.
