As a Catholic, you participate in a type of magick every time you attend mass. What do you think mass is, but a ritual meant to bring you closer to God. The prayers you recite can be equated to spells or chants. By partaking of the body and blood of Christ, you are taking God into yourself, one of the highest forms of magick there is. Magick is nothing sinful. It is more an elevated conciousness where by changing yourself, you change what's around you. Isn't that the goal of every religion?

I've been in your boat----Catholics are often very attracted to magical traditions, probably because Catholicism is the most 'pagan' of the Christian religions---all of that ritual, and a 3-in-1 God, to boot!
When I first started becoming interested in non-Christian practices and beliefs, I was scared---particularly, I was scared of the reincarnation concept. However, I couldn't tolerate the Church anymore....I didn't know much about the Church's history at the time, but I did know that I didn't like the theology. So, when I was 11, I left the Church; and within a couple of years, I was studying witchcraft. Eventually,I left that, too---_I decided that I'm more of a deist, albeit with some Buddhist and pagan leanings. I still love Jesus, but I think that I made the better choice by following what was in my own heart. Your path is your choice. I wish you well on it, and I encourage you to go wherever your heart is pointing you. You can always change your mind about things later; and if you eventually decide that you really do believe in Catholicism, then go to Confession and sin no more. ;) Not that I think that you would have been sinning in the first place, mind you!

Hi Honey!
I know exactly what you mean. Don't feel bad. Just watch that you don't cross a line.
It sucks that a lot of the magic and mysticism has been washed out of our Catholic faith. That's one of the reasons I lean so heavily on traditional Catholicism. But I can't call myself a "traditionalist" be cause I find them to be awfully mean spirited.
Have you ever prayed a novena? I love novenas!! Look some up and give them a try. Remember, 9 days at the same time every day.
Do you use those big cathedral candles at all? Most churches don't use them any more so I buy them online then take them to church and have my priest bless them.
I'm also really big on Trappist incense. Sometimes I just buy sticks of frankincense and or myrrh. Have that blessed too.
Check out a book called Ancrene Wisse. It's an old manuscript. Can be difficult to find. Check Amazon's used books. There's a compilation book called Anchoritic Spirituality.
An Anchoress (today they're just called Hermits) was a woman vowed to Christ and essentially walled up in a church. Julian of Norwich. Margery Kemp. Some of our historican Anchoresses.
Feel free to e-mail me with questions if you have need.

Magic like pulling a rabbit out of a hat?
Don't take it too seriously. It is just a trick.
