they can't be with their mother because the mother caused them to have several wounds, i don't think she intentionally did it but i had to take them to the vet and get them stitched up in several places on their bodies. the mother would lick them and mess with the stitches if they were back with her, and her licking on their stitches would cause them to get infected too. the mother may not even take them back if i tried because they have been to the vet and have the smell of other ppl on them, thats what the vet said. so im not going to risk another attack on them if she did indeed attack them.

Their mother should be handling all these issues. You should not have removed them from her, nor should you have touched them right away. She needs time to bond with them, and nature has prepared her to take care of their needs.

I've had this experience in the past on several occasions. The pups will be around 3 wks. old before they will start eliminating on their own,the umbilical cord should dry up and fall off in about 1 week.Pups need to stay with Dams at least til 3 days old,as Mom's milk helps them fight off any bacteria and germs, but if Mom is biting and causing open wounds, you must take full control if you want the pups to survive.I usually use the Goat milk in a can like evaporated milk comes in and mix it half and half with sterile water only, because it is easy to digest,or the regular pet formula for pups.Good luck on your new babies.Pups should be fed every 2 to 3 hours day and night until about 3 wks. old then you can increase the hours in between feedings.

You will have poop and pee duty for probably 4 weeks or so. Too bad mom was so rough with them. They really need her. The cord should come of in a week or so. You can apply a tiny amount of alcohol with a cotton swab to the cord to help it dry up. The eyes will open in 7-10 days. It is a job to take care of them but the rewards are wonderful !!!
Good luck "Grandma"

The umbilical cords will dry up and fall off within a matter of days.
Puppies will need to be stimulated in this fashion until their bladder and bowel muscles strengthen, usually by 21 days of age. Most puppies will eliminate on their own by three weeks of age.

The best thing would be to find a mother pup and put them with her. Be sure to put some antiseptic on the umbilical cord because normally the mother would be licking it too. I think it takes about 4 weeks for them to learn to learn to bm on their own. What happened to the mother?

Their chords will fall off around 1-2 weeks, and they should start using the bathroom around 3-4 weeks, but just to make sure, keep helping them up until 6 weeks. This will make sure they do not get constipated, and to assure they all are ready to go on their own. :o) Good Luck!

usually the mother bites off the cord when they are first born, you should cut it off now, but i'm not sure if they are now too old, you may have to take them to a vet. The puppies should have been to a vet anyhow by now just ot have an overall check. When they get to be several days old, they should be pottying by themselves. What happened to the mother that you are having to care for the puppies by yourself?

Momma's stimulate elimanation in the newborn for the first few weeks, they'll start to 'go' on their own soon enough. The cords may take only a few days to come off, but usually within 1 week.
Why bottle feed? What happened to Momma?
