before you answer.. when i say missions i mean spreading the light of Gods word to the lost both here in the states and over seas.

think about this verse: "if you love your family mre than me you are not worthy of me"

are we christians willing to make family sacrifice to following Gods callign? or do we just leave it up to the single people to become involved in missions.?

i ask this because... i have been a missionary for two years now and i have been to numerous countries... i do see some families from the us that moved overseas because they felt God calling them there.. tyhen i met others who live in another country while their wife, kids, etc. are back in the states.

they got into missions because God called them ...

in away christians are called to be missionaries(not thw world view of missionaries) but the biblical view.. it is all described in the Great commission. where christians are supposee to go into all the world and preach the Gosple.

I think that being a missionary is one of the ultimate forms of arrogance, personally, so I am going to have to say 'family'.

If you are called to missions, you should go. This is something that would need to be worked out between spouses since you become one when you marry. Singles are not and should not be the only people in the mission field. For some married people this means doing short term or domestic mission trips. Remember that while foreign missions are important and are part of the Great Commission, we have a mission right here in the U.S., in some ways more so. Never has a country been more jaded in their views of God. One is not better than the other. Thank you for your important work for the Kingdom. God bless the work of your hands.

God would not ask someone to abandon their family. Ephesians 5:22-6:1 definines the responsibilities of the mother, father, and children and their obligation to each other. You can be a missionary without leaving you family, you can be a missionary in your home town. There are lost souls everywhere.

If I believed God called me into a mission situation where I would have to leave my kids behind, I would have to be totally sure of that calling, but I would leave. I believe my children are an awesome responsibility from God. I am entrusted with their care, so I would have to know they would be well cared for and loved in my absence.

Praise God he has never called on me to make that choice, but instead has allowed me to actively reach the people around me right where I live. We don't really need to travel far these days to encounter people who are lost and need to hear about Jesus.

There is a time and a season for all things. Missions are easier to fill when you are single, but my parents are on a mission now, they just went as soon as they had retired and the kids were grown. When you are raising children, it's still easy to share the gospel while living at home :)

If God was calling me to spread His word over seas, I would go. I would definately leave my family to follow the Lord's will.

Matthew 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
