Buy them a bong and a bag of weed and say that they should do that instead...they will thank you for it.

For all the people saying to have him smoke a whole pack, don't! If you didn't know, cigarettes contain nicotine, an extremely addicted substance. Smoking a whole pack would just give this kid a huge dose of the stuff and get him addicted for sure if he isn't already. The best course of action is as some have said, taking away privileges and absolutely refuse to give the kid money. Maybe even keep an eye on the money they get for themselves. And make sure your kid knows what smoking can do to them, if need be you can always go for the scare tactics and show him images of the more serious and gruesome afflictions that have been caused by smoking.

I wouldn't reccomend making him smoke an entire pack in front of you. All it does is expose them to the smoke, and every cigarette smoked is another link in the chain of addiction.
Sit them down and have a talk. Call your doctor and schedule an appointment so he can counsel your child about the hazards of smoking. Also, everytime you smell smoke on their clothing, make a big deal about how much it stinks and how you don't want to go out into public with someone who smells like an ashtray.
When I was a teenager, my parents caught me smoking and made me smoke a pack in front of them. It didn't do much, made me feel green around the gills. Here I am, 27 years old and still smoking. I've tried to quit numerous times, and I am currently on my latest attempt. It is an ugly addiction that is so hard to quit. I think if my parents would have had me talk to a doctor about it AND prevent me from hanging out with the crowd I was with, things might be a little different. I wish I would have never picked up the first one.

It depends on how many years ahead of the legal smoking age (18) the teenager is. Also, before punishing the teenager, it is important to have an open and honest dialog with the teenager.
First you need to find out what motivated the teenager to start smoking. Was it peer pressure? Is the teenager under stress at school or at home? Is the teenager smoking to spite the parents?

DO NOT make him/her smoke a whole pack as punishment! Not only will your child hate you for making them sick, but you could also risk them getting nicotine and carbon monoxide poisoning. Nicotine poisoning has killed people and pets believe it or not. I use to smoke and got it once at a casino from smoking and breathing the second hand. It was the worst feeling in the world. Do not put you child through that. Instead let them know the dangers of smoking and how hard it is to quite. Trust me it is hard. Maybe take him to a cancer hospital and see first hand the dangers. Use love and a caring additue first and see where that gets you. Again please don't do the whole pack thing it is dangerous!

There really isn't a good punishment for this one....a lot of people make their kids eat a cigerette....and I can't imagine that that is healthy. I have also heard of parents making their kids smoke a pack in an hour or something...thats just dumb too. Have a talk with the child...show some graphic photos of people's lungs after smoking....take the child to meet lung cancer patients...show them what smoking can do first hand ....it might help!

Punishment won't work and could even result counter productive.
If you love your child then the only thing you can do is shock them into giving up smoking.
If necessary, find out which hospital treats lung afflictions and take your child for a tour. It could result in a wake up call.
Or talk to your child's school, your child's doctor.
Do anything and everything because lung cancer is not a joke.

I wouldn't make them eat one or smoke a whole pack fast or anything, but you do need to set patiently with them and talk to them of the ill effects of smoking. Remember, they are a teenager and know "everything", if you come on too strong is this one, they just might do it to spite you! Take them to places where people are sick from it and let them see for themselves. My sister quit after talking to a patient in an old folks home and they begged her to quit! She saw all the tubes just to breath and it freaked her out.

Do like King of the Hill. Hank made Bobby smoke a whole carton of cigarettes at one time, and Bobby was literally green by the time he was done. He didn't want to see another cigarette in his life. Or if you don't wanna do that, show him the consequences of smoking, and hopefully he'll get freaked out.

Yes I agree have the kid smoke one after another but don't go to far or he/she could get nicotine poisoning. One thing though- if you push to hard he/she will still do it behind your back and probably more just to spite you. Make sure you express your concerns but don't overdo it. DONT smoke yourself (you'll be a hypocrite) . Tell your kid you'll help them quit properly if they're addicted. Maybe a counselor at your kid's school could advise a good way to help (or pediatrition). Good luck.

Make him sit in front of you and smoke an entire pack, one right after the other. He'll be so sick that he won't ever want another one again.
