I am just furnishing a small Victorian terraced house that I bought recently and can't afford everything at once but meanwhile really need a good, comfortable chair in which to relax. I don't want to buy just for the sake of getting 'something' but would like to add later. However, all comfortable armchairs/recliners look so old fashioned and boring. Can anyone suggest where I might find a contemporary looking armchair that would fit in with how I have decorated so far; Straw coloured walls; recess walls next to fireplace covered with a darker hessian (sp?) wooden cladding over the chimney brest; a black and chrome focal gas fire (one of those that is flueless and fits on the wall) quite eye catching! laminated floor board type floor. Modern lamps; that's about it so far ... Yes, the house is Victorian but somehow a modern and mellow decor matches my mood at his time in my life!

Have you seen the new lazy boy collection inspired by Todd Oldham. Cool and modern looking, great colors and comfy.

Following a girlfriend's lead, I went to used shops, and eventually found a lazy boy that looks rather contemporary and stylish. I have bought very little brand new furniture, in spite of having a brand new house up the country.
I inherited my mum's house in a city and kept her old stuff. I am thinking of having it recovered because it will be much cheaper than new--another idea from a current lady interest.
The only downside of inheriting or buying old stuff is that it isn't necessarily what we really want example: the larder fridge isn't worth a jolly twonk's time! You don't know what problems your might have soon after acquisition!

My son bought a brown leather reclining armchair from local classified for 40quid, very modern style and great condition.

I agree that the Todd Oldham chairs are nice. Try these Lazy-Boy links below. One is for their recliners and the other for Todd Oldham.

We have 2 recliners that are wingbacks in the Chippendale style. When in the upright position, they don't even look like recliners.

I'll agree with you; most recliners are not made with style in mind, unless velour saddle bags are your style...
