I am picking up a girl very shortly to take round mine and am going to make her dinner, then we arte heading to the pub. Is a long story but I don't really know this girl. Is mainly through a friend of mine and she has seen me once and said she liked me etc.
Anyway, my question is should I get her some flowers or will that seem a bit silly? We are both uni students so I dont really know if flowers/chocolates etc are the sort of thing to do in this situation. Especially as I have never met her before. But part of me thinks I should. Any help, especiallyu from the ladies?

If you buy her flowers or chocolates she will see that you have put some thought into it, and also that you are not afraid to express youself - I think you should do it if that's what you want to do. She'll think you're really sweet!

I think a single flower would be more reasonable ... a whole bouquet of flowers seems a little much for someone you don't know very well .. don't want to send out any weird signals too soon you know ... and not everyone likes chocolate ... I know I'd rather have a bag full of sour patch kids then chocolate ... lol ... good luck and have fun ... !

If you decide not to get her flowers or chocolates on the first date .. and you have a great time, make plans for another ... then be sure to send flowers to her work or something the next day saying how much of a good time you had and can't wait for the next date - for some reason in the back of my head that seems to be very romantic and thoughtful ... showing her you're still thinking of her ... !

I'll tell you my opinion, from a woman's point of view. It depends on the girl you date. If you think that the girl is a romantic type (you talk about humanities, theater, books, and so on...) you should definitely give her some flowers, or chocolate or cook a dinner for her and drink some wine. If you think that the girl is the independent type (focused on her future career, not having time to discuss about small things that makes the joy of a first-time relationship, she is very busy and has that independent and self-conscious look) then try to take her slowly because - as in the majority of the cases dealing with this type of girls/women - she will know when is the proper time to let you make the next step. She would like to have the control of the relationship.
Now, as I know, I can surely tell you that every woman loves to receive flowers. So, when dealing with a certain type from that mentioned before, you'll know how to "give" that flower: 1. in the first situation (with the romantic type) you can annex to bouquet a nice word, or a kiss on the chick.
Good luck.

Forget about the flowers and chocs. Personally I'd run a mile if someone did that on the first date. It's too strong. The meal is a lovely idea, will give you time to get to know each other then off to the pub for beer after. Perfect! Hope all goes well x

I agree with getting her one flower. It's thoughtful but not too much. Infact, I think you're lovely for just considering giving her something on a first date. Even if she isn't a flowers or chocs girl she'd have to have a very hard shell not to melt a bit if you made that kind of effort. Good luck. You do know you have to come back on here and let us all know how it went now don't you?

Buy her flowers, but not up front...Make a point to walk with her past a flower shop or street vendor and just "impulsively" pick her up a nice bunch. This gives you some time to ask her if she likes flowers(some girls don't) and which kind are her favorite... Another choice might be just a single chocolate rose-bud, wrapped in colorful foil...Good luck!

Chocolate is a little overboard but flowers always make a good first impression. Smell good too (meaning you)! Women love a good smelling man. Good Luck! But remember how you start is how you will have to finish, meaning start off big and there will always be the expectation of something big.

Remember when you used to buy me flowers and bring me candy :)

Skip the flowers/candy. It will seem a bit much. Just take the lady out for a nice time, show genuine interest in her, and be a gentleman.
Good luck and have fun.

Flowers always make a nice impression, but keep it simple, single rose or a couple of carnations. If you end up liking here you always want to have room to improve, so start out small. Good luck to you.

I'd save the flowers for the second date. There's always the possibility that if you take flowers she'll think you're over eager to impress.
