How's it done, or how do you do it at home?

In general, corn is malted (partially sprouted) and then mashed (heated so the enzymes from the malt convert starch to sugar) and then yeast is added to ferment it. It's like making corn-beer (moonshiners even called this part "beer"). When it's done fermenting (about 2 weeks or so) then the beer is put into a still and it's distilled. The product of the distillation is collected and distilled a second time to get a cleaner, purer product. It's then stored in oak casks for a few years (where it gets the brown color and most of its flavor) and then you have corn whiskey.

If you want to do it at home, here's more than you could possibly want to know about it:

...just keep in mind that if you're not in New Zealand, Italy, Greece, and a couple other European countries, it's illegal to do it at home.
