Hibiscus can be used several ways. The shrubby, tropical types are used for landscaping and fresh flowers. These types are limited to areas without frosts or mostly without frosts.

Perennial type Hibiscus plants can be used in areas with very cold winters. They too are used for seasonal color becuase they grow in the warm seaon and die back in winter.

Hibiscus flowers can also be used to make tropical drinks. One recipe called for 4-6 flowers blended with juice, water, ice, rum, and sugar. The flowers provide a thickening effect and add a pink color.

Hibiscus cannabinus is a fastgrowing species of Hibiscus that is used for fiber, kanaf fiber. The stalks grow tall and are harvested to make jule-like fibers, or even pressboard.
