The wall opposite the front doors is 9' wide and 8' high. It has a 4x6 mirror on it to reflect light from the windows in the doors. Cream tile and pale custard yellow walls with a rust, copper, cream stripped 5x7 rug. There is an 8' long 30" high, mahogany book shelf under the mirror. I could use some suggestions.

Thanks to each and every one with any suggestions.

Well, your rug may give you some great cues. What about using the rust or the copper?

Or, contrasting colors from the color wheel could be fun, too. (Try the color selection tool at www.behr.com.) You could try a deep sea blue, a dark purple, a dark green, a medium blue.

Before I read the rest of your question, my first thought was "to pack a punch, I'd use a deep rust or burgundy." What a coincidence that your rug has rust in it!

The wall would look really pretty in rust. Or, better yet, do the striping technique by alternating flat and glossy stripes in rust, cream or a combination of the two.

I did a search on paint striping (not stripping-that's a totaly different thing ;~) and found a couple of good websites that explain the technique very well.

Good luck and have fun!
