since I had him outside this morning he's been making these weird sounds, it sounds like he's wheezing or hacking. Does anyone know what this could be? Should I take him to the vet?

The little puppy may have an upper respiratory infection. He probably needs to go to the vet. If he requires medicine, ask for the paste that goes in the ears rather than the pills or liquid.

Hope puppy feel better.

Poor puppy! My 7 yo and 4 month old Italian Greyhounds just had the same thing. It started with the older one sort of sneezing and then advanced to a funny cough and then he started to bark funny. At first I thought it was his usual change of season little allergies, then when I heard the bark, I knew something was up, took him to the vet right away. Vet said it was either an upper respitory or beginnings of kennel cough (she wasn't sure, as she usually sees them much further along). She gave me medications for him and over the weekend, the baby got it too. Same thing. The vet was nice enough to just do up the meds for the baby without an office visit, since we were pretty sure it was contagious. She made a point of letting me know that either of these can be a problem for a pet and I had been wise to take care of it sooner rather than later. The IG's are up and at it again and after the medication was done, the older one still had some symptoms, but all was cleared up within 2 weeks. I would go ahead and take him to the vet. Most vets don't charge that much for a visit, but the meds were a little pricey, but worth it. At least it wasn't like antibiotics I've gotten where it like $100 for 10 pills or something. You can wait a day or two to see if its just allergies, but I'd advise you to go sooner rather than later, as if it is contagious and you are walking your dog outside, chances are, all your neighbors dogs could potenially get the same thing. Just a thought. Hope your little baby is okay and gets better soon! Good luck!

If he hadn't been making the weird noises before you took him outside he may have snuffed up something that is now lodged in his nose. Yes, you need to get him to a vet. If its an "awn" from grass or weeds it can burrow further into his sinuses and cause all sorts of problems.

If he's been making the weezing, hacking sound all morning (before and after you took him outside) he could have kennel cough or another respiratory infection. And, yes, you need to take him to the vet for this, too. Respiratory infections in small dogs can lead quickly to pneumonia.

Get your dog to his vet and have him checked out as quickly as possible.

I really don't agree with half of these people. You don't need to rush you animals to the vet every time they sneeze. In most cases the vet is going to tell you that it is to early to determine the cause of the ailment. It it isn't immediately life threatening, watch him for a while, see if he stops wheezing. Make sure he is getting enough oxygen, and check to make sure he isn't having an allergic reaction. If he got stung by a bee or bitten by an insect (depending on what climate you are in) he could be having an allergic reaction.

Just use your best judgment when it comes to your animals. Use common sense. If you are one of those people that can not judge what is and isn't life threatening, then yes take him to the vet if you are worried. But I usually recommend you try to ride it out and watch him closely.

Maybe he ate something that didn't agree with his stomach, and now he is trying to get rid of it. Make sure he isn't swelling and check his throat to make sure he is getting enough air, and keep a close eye on him. If over the next few hours it gets progressively worse, take him to the vet today because tomorrow is saturday and you will have to wait until monday if he does get worse.

I would take him to the vet as he may have an upper respiratory infection. You will feel better if a vet sees him and checks him out. He may have something he picked up outside stuck in his throat. IMO he should see the vet.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aUMUJ

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

When my dog goes out he get those too. There allergies my vet said. Sometime Vets will get you med but others will just say let them be. You should take him to the vet to make sure and if he hasn't stoped yet then something else could be wrong. If you don't have time today just call your vet and talk to them over the phone sometimes they can tell you whats wrong with them and tell you if they should bring them in. Remember only a vet can tell you whats truly wrong with your animals.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Learn more http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?UehG

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

Since Shih Tzu has really short noses, they kinda have to work a little harder when it comes to breathing. He could of been running around and got a little winded. But if its serious wheezing, you may want to take him in because short-nose dogs get respiratory problems more then others. Not all have them, but its just a good idea to just check it out.
