Ok, I understand that the answer is a broom. But I don't really understand what "eats a maid's life" means. Like I know that a maid uses a broom and the broom "eats" dirt? I dunno...

Well... the maid spends most of her time (or her life) sweeping the floor with the broom. I don't think it was meant to imply that the broom is the reason for the maid's death but rather it consumes alot of her time or as Shakespeare may have put it "eats her life".

It definitely eats the maid's life as the poor maid spends most of her time brooming the floors which she does not enjoy much.

'Eat the maid's life' probably means that because she has to use the broom all the time it seems like that's all she's doing through life. Thus it eats up her time (or) life..... figuratively speaking.

yeah its a broom i guess it means the maids life is based on cleaning so the broom is eating her life

Broom - The poor maid uses it to clean the floor and that makes her life miserable. so if there was no broom, the maid's life wouldn't be disturbed, in other words, it wouldn't be eaten.
