The NYC Marathon doesn't go anywhere near the Brooklyn Bridge.
The marathon starts on the Verrazano Bridge in Staten Island, winds through a few streets in Bay Ridge until it gets to Fourth Avenue. The route then takes the runners north, all the way to the end of Fourth Avenue at Atlantic where they turn up Layfayette Street Near the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The route then winds north through the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Williamsburg, and Greenpoint crossing into Queens in Long Island City. The runners then cross into Manhattan from Queens over the 59th Street bridge.
The NYC Road Runners club organizes the race. They have a full route on their site - nyrr.org

I hate it when people answer questions and all give you the same, wrong answer! Anyway, I found a detailed google maps mashup from last year's route. I'm guessing the route is basically the same from last year (i hope!) here you go:

You can go to the site of the NYMarathon.com and they should be able to help you. Or you can go to Auto. Assoc. and they will have maps. If you live in the area, the police department could tell you also.
