I honestly think it is a case of one upmanship.2 weeks ago I got tired of it getting dark so early,so I hung some tiny white lights on a ficus tree on my front enclosed porch. She called me Martha Stewart and said that my house really gets noticed now.(Whatever, lady!)

Mostly I did it for my 7 year old son who enjoys it!

There are a lot of neighbors out there who are very competitive over anything. My first year in my home I decorated really cute for Halloween, the next-door neighbor said, "Okay, you can have Halloween, but Christmas is MINE!" I thought, "Huh? Weirdness"

Christmas came and my house was way cuter than hers :~)

Kill your neighbor with kindness, tell her how lovely her decorations are and how organized she is by having it up this early!

Happy Holidays!

I think it's super odd, but you're not the only one with weirdo neighbors. While trick-or-treating with my kids, we went by a house down the street that already had their Christmas tree in their big picture window- it had been up since at least Saturday. I am lucky to get my Christmas stuff up by Christmas Eve!

Most people wait until Thanksgiving but I have known some that decorated the 1st of November. Its up to the individual, after all, retailers start putting up their Christmas decorations in August here in the south.

It's all part of this downward spiral of materialism, competition, and marketing, with the accompanying loss of the meanings of all of the original holidays.

The change of each season and holiday help give a healthy rhythm to our natural lives. When we ignore these, we ignore and disrupt the true rhythm of life and wonder why we feel so disconnected.

Children enjoy what we teach them to value and enjoy. Learning to have patience and wait for the real holiday and to really enjoy it in it's own time, helps encourage aspects of discipline and respect.

We all come into contact with these poor lost souls who are on this competitivenes track. If we get on the competitiveness track with them, we contribute to the decline of the quality of the society that we leave our children and grandchildren.

Live in Norhern Jersey and put up lights for Halloween and Halloween decorations. We take down the ornaments and change one strip of lights that are orange to red then we are ready to go for Xmas except for a few decorations. We don't run the lights till we approach the holidays. Saves freezing. I hate the short days and have to learn to cope with my moods; flowering plants help.

You both sound very competitive with each other. Why? I don't understand the strong urge to try to get decorations up sooner than a neighbor. You should just put up your decorations when it is the best for your schedule and other needs and not worry about if and when a neighbor puts theirs up. Should try to concern yourself with the really important things of life and leave these details to some one else to worry about.

That is odd! It's not even Thanksgiving yet! I think after Thanksgiving is when it's ok to start seeing all the Christmas lights and trees!

There is a guy that works at the same company that I work for that puts up Christmas decorations in September. His wife is a major Christmas decoration freak and she forces him to do it. I usually put up my Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. I love Christmas trees and I like to look at them at the stores when they start to put them up but my boyfriend won't look at them with me before Halloween. He thinks it's wrong to do Christmas before Halloween and Thanksgiving.

I wouldn't put up the Christmas decorations this early but I figure it's whatever tickles your pickle. If you like doing stuff like that, that's your business.

Sounds od to me. I'm sure that your lights on your tree look good! So what if she called you Martha Stewart. Take it as a compliment. Martha is very creative and RICH!

I bet she put them up to make her place look better than yours. Oh well. Ignore her.
