In that area, I always recommend Cafe Luxembourg. It's just west of Broadway at 70th street - 200 W 70th Street to be exact. (212) 873-7411
The bar area is a little tight, but the food, drinks and atmosphere are wonderful.

Westside Brewery! A nice, clean pub at 75th and Amsterdam. The food is good too.

walk up broadway from 75th (where the beacon is) to ruby foos between 77th and 78th...if that's too glam go to 76th and Amsterdam avenue (which is behind the beacon)

I like the Dublin Pub on West 79th, right off Broadway.
