Hi,

If PSA means Prostate Specific Antigen and there is an increase in the free form value this indicates begnin prostatic hypertrophy ( BPH ). If instead the complex form ( PSA bound to an alfa-antichymotrypsin ) indicates cancer of the prostate. It would be fair to assume that the value of psa in a male w/o a prostate would be zero.

Ciao

If you are a man you can still have a PSA level even though the prostate has been removed and for sometime after. You still release the male hormone so it can affect the reading. .

The reference range on the lab report I am looking at is 0.00 - 4.00 Anything outside that range would be a problem - so this man's reading is .5 and is considered acceptable. It is also noted that reference ranges can vary due to differences in methodologies and that it is best to use the same testing method to monitor serial values.
