Because one isn't looking hard enough? Or maybe badgers always die away from the roads. The only reason to see a dead animal by the road is if it got hit by a car; maybe badgers are smart enough to avoid getting hit by cars. Actually, I don't recall ever having seen badger in the wild at all, dead or alive. But I am sure they exist, and die too.

Because in common with most members of the family Mustelidae they have a particularly malodourous set of anal scent glands which basically put would-be snackers off! Like the scent of very old cooking fat emanating from a well-known fast-food chain outlet!

because they are nocturnal, they aren't that common, and people would normally move dead ones to the side of the road, they can cause quite a lot of damage to a car if you hit one. They are big enough to see and therefore people usually avoid them.

There is someone who lives near us who goes round collecting dead animals off the sides of the road that have been hit by vehicles and he takes them home and stuffs them. I thought this was a joke until someone went to his house and saw them, they reckon he has thousands of various stuffed animals!
Weird!!
Maybe you have someone like that living near you!!
