Christianity: Christians believe in Jesus Christ, son of God. So they have, besides the Old Testament (which is also a holy book for jews) also the New Testament.

Christians, in their history, have divided themselves for several reasons (some theological, others also more "political").

Nowadays Christians, which all believe in the same things, are divided in groups:

Catholic Christians: they recognize the Pope in Rome to be the supreme guide and the descendant (in a metaforical sense) of Pietro (the first Pope and disciple of Jesus).
This religion is mainly practiced in Western Europe and parts of Africa.
Orthodox Christians: They have split from Catholics. They do not have one official supreme guide. Their priests are called Pope.
This religion, originated in Bisantium (Istanbul), is practiced mainly in Eastern Europe and Greece (Russia, Ukraine)
Protestants (or reformed) Christians: these split much later then Orthodox from the Catholic religion and, to some extent, show the more closeness to Catholicism. A great protestant reformer was Matin Luther who fought agains the Catholic hierarcy. The main differences between protestants and Catholics are:
- the relationship with God is much more personal and individual
- the religious hierarchy (the "priest") does not exist

Protestants and Orthodox do not consider the Pope as being the supreme guide of the curch.

Protestants have divided in many different groups some of which, in fear of furious persecution, fled to other countries (among which the USA) to practice their beliefs freely.

Theologically speaking all Christian religions have the same "core" beliefs, but express themselves and are organized differently (very differently in some cases).

There are many theological differences, but I believe this is irrelevant to the play at school...

But there is nothing these religions "do against each other" they all come from the same source: the teachings of Jesus the Nazaren and the Vangels. They divided and separated eachother during the two millennia of Christiandom's history.

Roman Catholicism is a Christian Religion. Basically, a religion that believes Christ is the son of God, is a Christan religion. Catholicism is unique in that they believe the Pope is the link between the people and God, but how important that link is varies wildly. Most other Christan religions believe that people have a direct link to God within themselves, and the Minister/Preacher is there to lead them on the 'right' path... Catholicism has a lot more rituals than other Christian religions, and they also have the Saints. Overall, there isn't anything that a Catholic or other Christan religion does/believe in that in general goes against each other. The Church's individual viewpoints is what causes the disputes (birth-control, divorce, etc.)

What a colossal undertaking - and it's IMPOSSIBLE ONE. No one has ever been competent to record out the diversities in faith, whether it is real faith , the Core of all is Single Universal Force, known as a God int Christianity, Allah in Islam, Paramatama, the Supreme Soul in Hinduism. Buddha and Mahavira don't seem to be accepting neither Soul, nor God as any phenomenon. As such Religions are animated, and fans too are residing and loving in peace, in which as there is not any Living Religion, however all SECTS within the identify of Religion is current. And there are lots of minor religions emanating from these types of SECTS. Religion is the Experiences of Self, Realization of that entire international is one, But as a substitute of those studies, we're BELIEVING approximately the faith, and Beliefs are fitting the DOGMAS. True faith comes from inside. what's popping out is the Sectarian Beliefs, And that approach The Communism too is faith, because it feeds,garments and protects each and every citizen. So faith now a days is come to be a Voters Choice as a substitute than residing the lifetime of religiousness.

There's tons of differences, so many differences It drives me nuts when someone says, "Christian catholic it all the same" The major difference to me is the worship of the saints, and the prayers to the Virgin Mary, They being catholics believe that the virgin Mary was born her self of a virgin birth. that she is eternally a virgin, and that she ascended into heaven.

This is from Pope John Paul the second, after he got shot

He saw great significance in the fact that the day the would-be assassin shot him in 1981 was the anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin at Fatima in Portugal. He believed he survived the attempt on his life because of the intercession of Mary. He later visited the man who had tried to kill him - a Turk named Mehmet Ali Agca - to forgive him in his prison cell.

He also visited the shrine at Fatima to thank Mary for sparing his life when, incredibly, a priest with a knife lunged at him, but was stopped before any harm was done.

Don't ever call me Christian Catholic same thing, were different as knight and day,

Exodus 20:3 You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments

Catholics and Christians believe basically the same thing. They both believe in the Trinity and Jesus as savior. But they differ on what actually "saves" a person.

Christians believe in faith alone by grace alone is there salvation. Catholics believe that it is a combination of faith and good works. By believing that it is faith plus works, Catholics are saying they have a hand in their own salvation. Christians by saying faith alone saves admit that there is nothing they can do to contibute - it is a gift of God alone and only he saves. (Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.)

That's the major difference but there are others.

I think of it this way. Religion looks like us reaching up to God, trying to do good works, trying to find God. But relationship with the Lord Jesus is God reaching down to us and giving us His Son as payment for our sin, loving us, truly walking with us. Religion and relationship are two different things. Sometimes playing church as some demoninations do is the difference between religion and relationship - I have a thriving vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus - it is not the building that I sit in to worship Him - it is my heart where Jesus (the Holy Spirit) dwells. Is my/your heart right? That is the question - only Jesus Christ can change hearts and minds - then our spiritual eyes are opened and we have a relationship with Him. I hope this helps.

First i suggest you go to a christian Pastor Apostolic which means to bring forth change. Second pray about it and ask the holy spirit to guide you. 3rd know that catholics pray to mother mary and No Where in the bible does it tell us to do that actually in the book of timothy it tells us theres only one mediatore between God and Man and that is Jesus we should not have to pray to priests at all the devil has deceived many people. Get in to the word of God and hide it in your heart because the truth shall set you free.

The differences came about when they split up (as denominations - they are still part of the same faith, the christian one).

The split between Roman Catholic church and Protestant church (rather than christianity) happened in the 16th Century (13 October 1517) - called the Protestant Reformation.

It was started by Martin Luther when he nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg (Germany). He was a priest who wanted to change the practice of indulgences ( payment for the absolving of sins) among other things within the church.

The general differences between the RC church and the Protestant church can be summarised with the '5 Solas' "

Sola fide ("by faith alone") being right with God (justification) comes only through faith, not good works (the key cause of the reformation).

Sola gratia ("by grace alone") salvation not through merit an unearned gift (this was in response to the Catholic doctrine of merit).

Sola scriptura ("by Scripture alone") that the Bible is accessible to all, not needing to be interpreted through the Pope and bishops.

Solus Christus ("Christ alone"; sometimes Solo Christo, "by Christ alone") Christ is the exclusive mediator between God and man. Neither Mary, the saints, nor priests (other than Christ himself) can act as mediator in bringing salvation.

Soli Deo gloria ("Glory to God alone")All the glory is due to God alone - the Reformers believed that human beings (such as the Catholic saints and popes) and their organizations (the Church) were not worthy of the glory that was bestowed on them

But most denominations including the Roman Catholic and the Protestant ones have a common statement of faith that they hold to - the Nicene or Apostles Creed ( the one that starts off
" We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth ..")

Thus, by definition, any 'christianity-based' cult would be one that does'nt agree with any part of the Creed.

This is kind of a technical answer, but you could focus on Martin Luther who is the key figure in this .. I'm sure there's loads of material that can be worked into a school level play:

For example:
-instances of indulgences acted out;
-Luther writing the Theses and nailing to the door asking for audience at the Diet of Worms (an annual meeting of the RC church);
-the Pope issuing a decree demanding Luther retract (the Theses);
-him being summoned before the Emporer (Charles V);
-Prince Frederick III, needing to obtain an agreement that if Luther appeared he would be promised safe passage to and from the meeting.;
- at the meeting Luther being presented with a table laden with his writings and asked to retract;
-Luther asking for permission to consider his answer, which was granted;
-him answering the next day(and standing by his writings) and ending with the quote"Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen.";
- after the meeting, Prince Frederick seizes him on his way home and hides him in Wartburg Castle;
-here Luther begins his German translation of the Bible;
-Charles meanwhile makes him an outlaw, bans his writings and issues an arrest warrant;
-when Luther comes out of hiding, the emperor is preoccupied with military concerns, and because of public support for Luther among the German people, he is not arrested.

It is a 'dry subject esp at school level, but each of the solas could be contrasted and enacted out, from how it was being done before. Eg people seeking God's approval by doing good deeds or through obedience versus being found right through faith or grace alone; people relying on priests and saints instead of Jesus alone; stuff along those lines.

Hope it goes well.

The differences are so slight that they amount to nitpicking. Both believe in a false judgmental punishing God.

Instead of the real unconditionally loving God.

Love and blessings Don
