My son was sent to stand outside his class today because he tutted at himself because he didn;t know a word. The teacher said its because he has declared his classroom a "non-moaning" zone !!! He wants us to re-enforce this at home by not allwoing our children to moan about anything. Does anyone else think this is wrong? If he had shouted ou "for F sake" os something then of course he should be punished but not for just tutting surely. He's 10 by the way.

the teacher is a disgrace - there are far more important things for a teacher to be concerned about than tutting - like giving our kids a proper education and they won't get that stood outside the classroom door

I actually went to my daughters parents evening last night, and she seems to have had the same idea. She said she believes the children shouldnt have to moan and then she wont have to moan back, this is to create a more approachable atmosphere within the classroom between pupils and the teacher. She says since doing this the children have become much less aggressive and actually try and talk about the problems they are having rather than getting frustrated with others and themselves. Having said this your son only "tutted", which to me is a quick reaction we have all learned to do when somethings not right, and I also believe he has no right in telling you how to use your parenting skills at home

Well I think we werent there in the class with the children moaning and groaning thru each and every assignment. I have encountered this before and think the teacher is handling it correctly. It didnt really hurt him any to stand in the hall and he wont probably do the moaning thing again so the teacher accomplished that.It is just like when our spouses punish the children we back them up and we need to do that with the teachers too. If it causes no harm then the kid will survive and grow from it.

I had a Spanish teacher that was somewhat like that she didn't like us to say ummmm and yawning was a no no or you would have to stick your head out the window. I'm kind of grateful now because saying ummmm while your thinking of what to say is kind of annoying when you hear other ppl doing it and becomes kind of a bad habit. The teacher may have seemed extreme but just think your child will find another way to let out his "moaning" in a more positive productive way and later on it may help him to understand not everything is easy and you can't just moan about it you gotta try your hardest and get it down. It may have hurt his feelings by being singled out but he'll remember it for a long time and catch himself next time and remember not to moan. Good luck to him and i hope everything works out :)

I think that the teacher is being stupid, why don't you phone the school and express your views on this matter and explain how your son felt upset by his teachers reaction, this way they should re think about there silly idea and apologise to your son, we are all humans how can we not moan?

If would have suited the teacher to notice the frustration at being able to spell before the tutting. I would go and tell the teacher how inappropiate their actions were and if you you have no joy go to the head.

Hi!
OMG!
Power crazed teachers again!
When s**t like this happens to my kids, I explain to them that to their teachers, the classroom is the teacher's 'kingdom' and as such the teacher is in power of all he surveys!
So, once in a while, in order to flaunt his 'power' he has to show some poor unsuspecting kid up in front of the class (usually one of mine!!!).
As for a non-moaning zone, what right has he got to enforce that?! Moaning is a form of self expression is it not?
If I told you about the number of 'head to heads' my husband has had with teachers over trying to place unrealistic controls over our kids - well we'd be here 'til Christmas!!
As for telling me what I should and should not enforce upon my child in my own home!!!!
What a load of b@ll@cks!!
Tell your son not to take it to heart, and give him a big hug every night he walks through the door! After spending all day with that 'teach' - he deserves one!!

His teacher is an idiot I think.
I do think most institutions are too soft nowadays, but a tut is quite often an involuntary action.
I would see the head about this.

That poor little boy! Talk about giving the lad a complex. there are rules which need to be adhered to but that is going over board. i think the teacher was on a power trip and trying too hard to exert his authority.
Give him a hug and go talk to the head!!!
