Porcelain crowns cost more to make by the technician, more skill is envolved in making them as they are considered as cosmetic. They charge more to the practice and that effects the cost to you. Most practices now charge for cosmetic crowns on a private basis only.

This change probably restricted the amount of subsidy that they can obtain for each treatment, or raised the amount that they can directly charge the patient, or both.

You are very fortunate, I have been unable to get a N.H.S. dentist where I live. I have to go to a private dentist, I have just had a similar crown fitted and it cost £.675.00. I was appalled, especially as I have worked all my life and paid into the N.H.S.

gold is expensive , even if you have a gold substructure under your porcelain crown it takes alot more gold to make a full gold crown, so it will be more expensive.
