Ahh.. the question of what to drink with a surf n' turf. My answer is to drink what you like! I personally would pair a nice Pinot Noir with it, but if you only drink white then drink white, maybe a nice Puligny Montrachet .. The whole idea with pair wine and food is to not over power the flavors of either the food or the wine. This can be a bit difficult with steak and lobster. The steak can hold up to the heaviest of reds where the lobster has that buttery texture that I would go with a nice crisp white burgundy to cut through it. Go with 2 wines!

Frankly I have often wondered why people order such a combination simply because no one wine will complement both foods. Even if both are grilled, it is doubtful that you will be totally happy with one wine for both.
Therefore, if you insist on having both on the same plate, why not use two wines?
You definitely require a rich wine for the lobster, but one whose tannins will not overwhelm the sweetness of the meat. Therefore I suggest a white wine, perhaps a Chardonnay, one that has less wood. I would prefer a less expensive French Macon or Rhone if dining out or have more fun with a better wine at home. There are lots of very good Chardonnays on the market today along with some tasty Viogniers. I would avoid Sauvignon Blancs with lobster.
As far as the steak is concerned, you have a lot of options. Since the theory here is to drink two different wines, I would pick a red wine that wouldn't overpower the white wine. Hence I would probably pick a Pinot Noir, either a French Burgundy or something from Willamette Valley (Oregon,) Russian River, Carneros, or even Santa Ynez (California) of Sideways movie fame.

Best Wine With Lobster

Shiraz is an exotic and romantic red wine. The grapes are originally from the city of Shiraz which is the home of an ancient Persian poet whose love poems were very seductive and sensous. You'll be tapping into some great Karma, in the subtlest way ;o)
The steak and lobster sounds great. Try a hollandaise sauce instead of the typical Bearnaise because it's more lemony and lighter when the steak is paired with lobster. The Shiraz will pick up on the citrus and YUMMMM! Great combo.

WHOA! DO NOT DRINK RED WINE WITH LOBSTER! THE HORROR! THE HORROR!

Friends do not let friends drink red wine with lobster. I recommend Sauvignon Blanc, but Chardonnay is fine.

Now, with the steak you want red. I recommend Cabernet, shiraz (syrah), or bordeaux from France which is usually a blend of cab and merlot.

I prefer to pair lobster with a champagne made from predominately chardonnay and not pinot noir or other varietals. The crispness, just the right amount of fruit and acid balance, cuts through the creamy, sweetness of the lobster and to me makes it not taste too rich and heavy.

For the steak I am a fan of a good, aged, heavily oaked Cabernet Sauvignon from California.
