If you just had your braces put on, they probably just said to go on a liquid diet to reduce the pressure on your teeth. I know that hours after I had my braces put on, I went back to school and had chicken tenders for lunch, so I think it really just matters what you feel comfortable eating. Although you can pretty much eat what feels comfortable to you, you should always avoid hard or sticky foods the whole time you have braces on. Foods like hard toffee, caramel, non-sugar free gum, thin crust pizza, and popcorn could put so much pressure on your teeth that some of the brackets pop off or wires break, so NEVER eat them with braces on! I thought that I could do it anyway, so I ate some caramel, and it pulled off a bracket that exposed a wire that kept jabbing me in the cheek and I had to go back to the orthodontist to get it fixed. It really hurt though, so I never did it again. Although they say that you can't eat gum, you CAN eat sugar-free gum according to my orthodontist.

You do not need a liquid diet with braces. Just soft foods in the first week.

Then stay away from soda (causes brownish marks on teeth when the braces are removed), hard carrots, popcorn (kernals are bad), and too many sweets (as the sugar can get trapped around the braces in hard to reach areas and create cavities).

Make sure you have wax from when they rub the cheeks and lips. Eat a nice healthy diet and drink lots of water.
I have no idea why they want you on a liquid diet. That is not enough nutrition for you to stay on more than a day or two.

most people say you need to go on a liquid diet is because braces cause so much pain that the only you can do is drink liquids. But if you're not ex[eriencing a lot of pain go ahead eat chicken and cheez nips unless your orthdontist said no for another reason.

The above answer is right. Eat whatever you can get down comfortably. Thats what i plan to do on wednesday anyway. I am dealing with metal spacers right now, but i'm finding ways to chew although its annoying feeling metal .
