My 5 year old foster daughter has been going through a very wet spell lately. She is averaging a wet pair of panties about every couple days. On occassion, she can go a week or more w/o but it's still becoming overwhelming. She wears a pull up at night and unfortunately, now has to wear one to Kindergarten too. She has peed herself at least 20 times and even pooped herself twice in the past 2 1/2 months. When asked why, her answers vary from, "I forgot", "I don't know" and "something was more important that going to the bathroom (TV, Playing, etc.). I need advice on how to help her get thru this. She even peed her pull up yesterday and would not admit that she did it. I asked her and she said she didn't. I showed it to her, had her smell it and she still would not admit she went to the bathroom in it. She seems to like being in trouble and this may be another sign of it. Please help! She tells us that she doesn't want to live with us anymore.

She's probbaly struggling with some emotiomal issues right now. So she's probably concentrating on other things beside getting to the bathroom. I would put her in regular diapers, and just try to be understanding and loving. Let her know that you aren't upset with her and try to remind her to use the bathroom. If she goes in her diaper...oh well...she's only 5 and it's not the end of the world. I've had two different friends that had daughters who wore diapers until they were 5. So, it's really not that big of a deal. Good luck.

Maybe you need to not give her so much attention on the potty issue and re-enforce her in other areas like her pictures she brings home from school and how well she ate her dinner if you stress out about the potty thing that will stress her out you have to remember that she has never had any stability and no1 has ever made her feel confident enough to want to accept new thing cause new thing are a change and they feel like your giving something else up not knowing that its better or not. Maybe have her have play dates at your house with other girl in her class and she will see first hand how they go potty and wear "big girl undies" maybe buy her some undies that have princesses and other characters that she recognizes and tell her when she is ready they will be waiting in her drawer for her to put on. My doctor has told me that a child will use the potty when a child is ready and theirs no way to make them you'll just have to give her time, she has had alot to adjust to. Good Luck :)

how about if you give her rewards for everytime she poops in the toilet and not on her pull ups?

my friends daughter also does this, she would crap on her bed, so that would be like a big ball of poop, she grabbed it and threw it at the waste basket. my friend saw it and got mad at her daughter.
i think its her way of disciplining the kid, shes too strict, that to the point her daughter would rather "not live in the moment".

Why are the Foster people not helping her with counseling? Heaven knows what this kid went through before you got her.

I see nowhere in your comments where you took her to the doctor. That is the FIRST thing I would do. As far as your methods of "teaching" her about her accidents...I won't even go into them.
