You must have a license to carry ANY concealed weapon (firearm) in a concealed fashion. In California, if you have a weapon in your vehicle it needs to be A)unloaded B)seperated from any magazines and/or ammo-this means different areas of the vehicle and C)not within reach of operator. I would agree with a previous answer somewhat. You dont need a license to carry a weapon in open display. However, it CAN NOT be loaded! You CAN NOT be arrested for this. Ther previous author writes about being arrested for disorderly conduct or peace disurbance. This falls under 647 of the California Penal Code and would be tough to enforce unless you were displaying the weapon in a threatening manner at which time it becomes brandishing a firearm which can be a felony.

Get a conceal carry permit, then you cannot only carring it in the car but also on your person (as long as it is concealed). You have a constitutional right to bear arms, unconcealed, but if you do that you could get arrested for disorderly conduct (causing a disturbance) so that will not help you. You can probably carry a gun in your car if it is unloaded and in a case without a permit but that is probably not what you are looking for. Regarding a gun in your home I don't think there are any restrictions, and the caliber does not matter.

To carry a gun in your car you'll need a Concealed Carry License from the State Attorney's Office, to keep a gun in your home, you just need ammo and an idea what your state laws are.

Most states will allow you to have a gun in your home, or car without a license/permit. Check with your local police.

Since you live in Texas, all you have to do is ask and take a gun safety course.
