You know how when some body say something they should not have they say now they have their foot in their mouth.

Well this is saying that if you keep your mouth shut you won't have to worry about that - saying something and being wrong

It is a saying refering to another old saying, that of sticking your foot in your mouth. i.e. saying something you shouldn't have, like accidentally suggesting a woman is old, or something. When it says a closed mouth gathers no feet, it means that if you don't say anything in the first place, you won't have the problem.

Not entirely accurate, because if a girl asks if she looks fat, and you don't say any thing, you're still in for it.

Have you heard the sayuing: "Put your foot in your mouth"?
Implies that you've made a faux pas through something you've said.
So, by not saying anything (closed mouth) you do not say anything hurtful.

It means that if you say something bad you'll get kicked in the mouth. But if your mouth is shut..... You just get kicked in the face.

"If you keep your mouth shut, there is no reason for any body to kick you" - is the inner meaning of the phrase.
