I have an EPSON PERFECTION 3490 PHOTO scanner. Is it possible with the help of this scanner to scan a document and save it in text format so that I can edit the same after scanning ?? If so, please guide me.

Accoding to Epson you should have an OCR program that came with your scanner. If you check the website listed in the source, or look at your manual under 'Scanning Special Projects", you will find the steps to capture text information

You need to follow the scan with an optical character recognition program like OmniPage (or maybe something came with the scanner). If you are talking about neatly typed pages it will recognize over 99 percent of the characters and put them into a Word file.

you'll need OCR (Optical Charater Recognition). Scanners usually come with it included in the software(especailly the price of the epson perfection).

If not I'm sure there will be freeware and shareware software availble on the Internet. Maybe try Epsons website, see if they have anything in their downloads section.
