I currently use Firefox on my mac. Until recently I could view audio and video on firefox, however now I can no longer do so, but can when I use safari. I have not changed any settings on firefox nor my computer and cannot understand why...can anyone help me fix the problems?

There are a couple of things you can try to solve the problem. Since you haven't altered any settings, I suspect the source of the problem is due to a corrupt preference file. If that's the case, deleting the preference file should solve the problem. Before you delete anything, it's a good idea to back up your bookmarks.

Backing up your Bookmarks:
1. From the menu bar, Click Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks.
2. With the Bookmark Manager window active, click File → Export from the menu bar, and then save the file somewhere on your hard drive.

All your bookmarks are exported in a single HTML file, enabling you to easily import them back later. Now that your bookmarks have been exported, you can now delete the corrupt preference file.

1. Quit Firefox (if it's running)
2. Navigate to ~/Library/Preferences, and delete the file called
"org.mozilla.firefox.plist". If you're running Tiger, it might be easier to search for the file using Spotlight. When you start Firefox, a new preference will be created.

Go ahead and start Firefox and see if the problems you were experiencing have been solved. If the problem still persists, try the following:

1. Download and Install the latest version of Firefox.
2. Download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash player: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash
3. Uninstall and then reinstall Firefox.
4. Make sure your computer's audio sample rate is set to
44100.0 Hz.
---

To restore the bookmarks you exported earlier, follow the steps below:
1. Start Firefox and click Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks from the menu bar.
2. With the Bookmark window active, click File → Import from the menu bar.
3. You now need to choose where to import from, so select the "From File" radio button and press "Continue".
4. Locate and select the html file you saved earlier and then press "Open".

Your bookmarks will then be restored.
